Role Overview:
The Manager, Artist Management is responsible for leading the Vancouver-based artist management team, ensuring an efficient and consistent approach to the resourcing and management of production crew members. This role involves building strong relationships and trust with individual artists/talent, understanding their career motivations, strengths, and project interests, and aligning these with the company's resourcing requirements. They will partner with local senior leadership and the Head of Talent and Head/s of Artist Management to define and implement local practices for the artist management team.
Key Responsibilities:
Artist Relationship and Development:
• Build and maintain strong relationships with artists/talent, ensuring regular touchpoints throughout their journey at NAS, including onboarding, during shows, promotions, recasting, and offboarding.
• Solicit feedback on artists' capabilities and leadership talent to support career development, demonstrating candor and openness to feedback.
• Ensure artists have established career development paths and receive regular performance feedback.
Strategic Talent Management:
• Develop a deep understanding of project and filmmaker needs, including skill sets, aesthetics, and gaps, using judgment to align artist aspirations with company needs.
• Partner with Talent Acquisition (TA) to ensure appropriate position briefs and updates on projections, and attend interviews to assess candidates for technical and cultural fit.
• Identify training, mentoring, internships, and outreach needs in partnership with Early Careers and Training, encouraging creativity and innovative solutions.
Leadership and Collaboration:
• Foster a collaborative and productive culture within the department, ensuring artists feel connected to the studio, and promoting curiosity and openness to new ideas.
• Work closely with HR, Legal, Content, Directors, Production Executives, and Finance to address talent-related challenges and development areas.
• Provide leadership and advocacy for the artists, representing their needs to production & studio management, and supporting a culture of resilience in adapting to change.
Operational Excellence:
• Stay abreast of market challenges and emerging technologies to identify potential resourcing challenges and opportunities.
• Support the annual and compensation review process, providing guidance to Artist Managers in line with company expectations.
• Maintain communication with all crew members to ensure business is conducted in an environment of confidence and trust.
Qualifications:
• Demonstrated experience in leading and managing teams, preferably within a creative or production environment.
• Strong ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse groups of artists and stakeholders.
• Proven track record of working collaboratively and cross-functionally across departments such as HR, Legal, and Production.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly and persuasively.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
• A minimum of 5+ years in Artist Management or a related field.
This role is based in British Columbia.
At NAS, we carefully consider a wide range of compensation factors to determine your compensation. We rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, location, skills, and experience. The overall market range for this role is typically $155,000-182,000 CAD. This reflects total compensation; we do not have stock options.
