Job Description
Overview:

The primary role of the Assistant Editor will be to organize, sync, and transfer footage for Vice World News (VWN) and all other Vice LOBs from ingest to edit and final delivery.

The Assistant Editor is proficient in Adobe Creative Suite with a working knowledge of media management, transcoding best practices, FTP and file-based media transfers, and general post-production workflows. The applicant should have a technical mind as well as strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities:
• Ingest and backup a high volume of video rushes in a wide range of formats from cards, cameras, drives, and FTP.
• Transcoding media to editable formats and correct frame rates.
• Setting up project files, syncing camera footage and audio and organizing projects for multiple editors in the APAC region as per standards & best practices of VWN.
• Making footage selects and labeling B-Roll. Exporting footage for translation when needed.
• Creating transcripts and shot logs, music cue sheets, translations, etc.
• Downloading and transcoding Archival footage.
• Rendering out motion graphics from provided motion graphic templates.
• Adjusting existing graphics to fit editing and technical specifications.
• Blurring and stabilizing shots . Making changes to credits and graphics when needed.
• Real-time watches down of all exports to ensure there are no technical errors.
• Encoding and uploading final deliverables to multiple platforms
• Log and prep cut downs for projects.
• Edit all extra material such as extra scenes, excerpts, socials, and trailers.
• Create clean splits and no subs deliverables of masters.
• Basic audio leveling for video based on requirements.
• Quality control - Final check for subs issues, correct cards used, any dropouts, sound issues, specs, etc.

Additional tasks may include:
• Working in the most proactive, creative, and professional manner to provide the highest level of service to our senior editors.
• Be part of collaborative feedback among Editorial teams as well as assist in editorial meetings.
• Able to work in a fast-paced News/Digital environment and be able to effectively multi-task.
• Proven flexibility and ability to work night and weekends, if required.

Requirements:
• Fully proficient in NLE systems especially Adobe Creative Suite.
• Needs to have superior knowledge of media formats, codecs, SD cards, CF cards, SxS cards, video codecs, etc.
• 2 years experience editing short and long forms documentary content.
• An understanding and enthusiasm for the VWN style of journalism and storytelling.
• Basic Motion Graphics with After Effects knowledge.
• Basic Experience in color grading.
• Knowledge of Cameras, Codecs, and LUT's.
• Fluency in English along with very good verbal and written communication skills.
