Description

Editing and Post Production careers are all the video, audio, and graphics positions that create a polished final product from the footage filmed by the production crew.

Background

After the film crew finishes, the post production department gets to work.

From the early days of film production, editors have been responsible for much of the movie magic that we enjoy. Initial techniques allowed for basic cuts, special effects, and sounds that captivated viewers. By the 1980s, the new digital age made many innovations in post production possible. Modern technologies paved the way for animation, computer-generated imagery, and visual effects that have led the film industry to unprecedented heights. In every production, bringing a film to life really starts in post.

There are many editing jobs for those with the necessary video, sound, or animation expertise. Intimate knowledge of editing software such as Avid, Premiere, and Final Cut is necessary for most video editing roles. Audio editors need experience with software like ProTools and Logic for sound mixing and production. Animators and visual effects positions require an advanced skill level in computer and motion graphics.
