Sheknows: Senior Parenting Writer

Job Description

SheKnows is hiring a Senior Parenting Writer to join our team in New York, working closely with the Editor-in-Chief and the Parenting Editor to lead our parenting coverage that resonates with our audience of moms of teens. The ideal candidate will have their finger on the pulse of teen and tween culture and a demonstrated ability to produce engaging, high-quality parenting features and news that tap into the zeitgeist, as well as the ability to quickly craft insightful same-day stories from breaking news and studies.
The Parenting Writer will be responsible for writing features and news for our parenting vertical, as well as occasional health stories that are tween- and teen-focused. This role will also collaborate closely with our Teen Council of kids ages 14-20 to elicit original insights, story ideas and contributed content across SheKnows platforms. A talent for sniffing out stories and identifying unique angles that align with our parenting-focused, pro-women brand and voice is critical.
The Work:
• Pitch and write approximately 2-3 parenting news and features per day
• Pitch and write parenting commerce stories, collaborating with SK's commerce editor
• Pitch and write teen-focused Health stories as necessary, collaborating with SK's health editor
• Lead the SheKnows Parenting Council, with oversight from Parenting Editor
• Engage the SheKnows Teen Council for insights and contributed content, with oversight from Parenting Editor
• Use analytics to inform content creation and help ensure Parenting vertical meets monthly traffic goals
• Represent SheKnows at events when appropriate
The Fine Print:
• 8+ years editorial experience at a major digital media company
• An obsession with Gen Z and Gen Alpha trends and culture
• The ability to package stories in a way that feels original, on-brand, and tailored to our audience of parents of teens
• Well-versed in digital strategy, analytics, and SEO
• Performs under high-pressure, fast-paced conditions, and works well both independently and collaboratively
• Experience with affiliate linking is a plus
• Journalism degree is a plus
Typical wage range: $75k - $85k
Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role. The typical candidate is hired below midpoint of the range. The total compensation package for this position will also include other elements, a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits including 401(k) eligibility and paid time off benefits.
