What You'll Do
Epic Games is looking for a Technical Designer in Animation (TDiA) Trainee to join our team working across various animation systems. As a TDiA Trainee, you will use your animation sense and technical understanding of character animation to design and create gameplay animation systems that facilitate appealing, high-quality character motion. You will work closely with Animation, Design, and Engineering colleagues to ensure the animation pipeline operates smoothly and efficiently.
In this role, you will
• Learn about the creation of animation behavior tools/techniques/philosophies that allow the building of complex movement systems
• Learn to design and implement animation state machines/behaviors and runtime solutions
• Work closely with the Animation, Design, and Engineering departments to analyze, troubleshoot, and solve in-game animation implementation issues and animation-related technical challenges
• Closely collaborate with the animation leadership to maintain the style and quality bar for animations in the game
What we're looking for
• Self-motivation, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work well with the team
• Knowledge and experience using animation centric tooling in Unreal Engine
• Experience with Animation Blueprints, Montages, State Machines, etc.
• Knowledge or experience creating animations
• Strong sense of motion and animation - understand how movement, timing, and transitions enhance gameplay feel and player experience
• Perseverance when facing frustration, someone who understands that it's expected to not get the assignment right in the first attempts, but keep trying. Also, that receives feedback well, adjusts and adapts. No space for ego
• Strong communicator. Quick and effective when reaching out to the team to solve problems, knows when a task is tricky enough to reach for senior teammates. Also ability to effectively sync information with multiple teams (engineering, animation) and manage to keep attention to multiple aspects at same time
