Job Description
WCIA 3 is looking for a dynamic Primary News Anchor for our top-rated Monday – Friday evening newscasts. WCIA 3 is the legacy station in the Champaign / Springfield, Illinois market with dominant ratings, a strong connection to our audience, and an emphasis on real journalism that serves our DMA.
Our anchors are household names in the communities we serve due to our station's rich history, significant community outreach efforts and focus on content that is relevant and impactful to our viewers. In addition to co-anchoring newscasts, our anchor will also be involved in franchise reporting and special projects, and with helping our reporters develop their skills.

You'll find a large market quality product with the family atmosphere you'd expect in a mid-sized Midwest market. We work in a friendly, Big Ten University town with a great quality of life and easy access to many large metropolitan areas.

Specific duties include:
• Serving as a primary presenter of news stories and other content in a manner that is clear, engaging and meaningful to news consumers on all platforms.
• Ensure that all news content meets station and company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
• Write and deliver news stories in a clear, conversational, concise and compelling manner.
• Produce newscasts on occasion and communicate clear direction with team members.
• Assist in writing, copy editing, researching and coordinating news programming and other content.
• Act as a field anchor / reporter as assigned.
• Conduct interviews with news makers, community members and others.
• Respond to breaking news and other urgent newsrooms situations as required.
• Participate in promotional activities including public appearances.
• Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
• Write content for the website and other digital platforms.
• Interact with viewers/users on social media sites.

Requirements & Skills:
• Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
• Fluency in English.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required.
• Minimum five years' experience in news reporting or anchoring. (More or less depending on market size.)
• Superior on-air presence.
• Excellent news judgment with an expansive knowledge of local and national current events, history, newsmakers and issues.
• Experience guiding, directing and motivating others.
• Ability to identify the developmental needs of others and to coach, mentor or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skills.
• Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment.
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to effectively listen to fully understand problems and communicate with a team to shape a solution.
• Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
• Flexibility to work any shift when necessary.
