The Job

De Lane Lea specialises in post-production for feature films and television. The state-of-the-art facilities and talented staff allow De Lane Lea to shape content to extraordinary levels of detail and creativity. The facilities include 4K HDR colour grading facilities, six networked dubbing theatres, social area, preview theatre, content handling and 50 cutting rooms in the heart of Soho.

The Mastering Operator Role is primarily responsible for managing of the Mastering and Deliverables tasks. The candidate should have extensive experience working at a similar level within a large postproduction company mastering and delivering content of a comparable standard and profile for both film and television. The Mastering Operator will be managing data and content throughout the building, across multiple platforms and equipment configurations and supervises the flow of content and data in, out and throughout the building.

The Daily
• Creating production delivery master files in line with current technical specifications. Eg. SMPTE, DPP, Netflix, Amazon, all broadcasters and studio and production technical specifications.
• Reviews production, admin and digital workflows, procedures and pipelines in line with industry standard requirements and specifications and ensures adherence.
• Interacts directly with client facing WBDLL personnel to establish scope of data work required and to architect an appropriate workflow for each production.
• Maintain department scheduling of facilities and personnel to ensure seamless coverage.
• Maintain current workflows, while simultaneously working on throughput efficiencies and improvements.
• Works directly with engineering department to troubleshoot and remedy equipment issues.
• Identify need for system upgrades and replacements to continually exceed expectations.
• Develop standards, systems and best practices (both human and technological) for content creation, distribution, maintenance, content retrieval and content repurposing, including the real-time implementation of content strategies.
• Establish workflow for requesting, creating, editing, publishing, and archiving content.
• Checking the integrity of all incoming and outgoing video and audio signals and monitoring the performance of operational systems.
• Operation of professional grade testing equipment including, software, players, PC's, video switchers, monitors, test scopes and audio equipment.
• Accurate and methodical testing that incorporates a focused attention on video, audio and subtitle to ensure impairment-free and artefact-free assets.
• Maintain a current and accurate understanding of all work-in-progress in the production and delivery areas to ensure on-time delivery of content.
• QC of master deliverables.

The Essentials
• An expert level knowledge of all delivery formats is essential for this role as is a deep understanding of the post-production process & technical requirements for international delivery.
• Data integrity and standards compliance checks using in-house and third-party tools
• Moving and organising data within the Production and Distribution networks, file permissions, and archiving content.
• Excellent working knowledge of Aspera and other secure file transfer networks and platforms.
• Technical and data support and tracking.
• Full understanding of tapeless workflows
• Must have experience with EDL's, OMF/AAF's, various quicktime codecs, etc and have a working knowledge of frame rates, formats, and codecs
• Expert level of knowledge of digitizing, transcoding, logging, syncing and grouping
• Extensive experience as an Assistant Editor and/or Media Operator
• High level experience with Clipster, Transkoder, Baton, Baselight, Flame, Adobe Creative Cloud, AVID, Protools and various standard post production systems and platforms.
• Excellent IT skills and high-level working knowledge of Mac OS, Linux and Windows.
• Exposure to processes and etiquette around high end episodic television drama and studio feature films.
