Come help Houston be WEATHER SMART! KHOU 11 in Houston, TX (the 4th largest city in the country) is looking for an experienced, energetic Meteorologist to join our science-focused weather team. Our purpose is to EDUCATE our audience (on every platform) about the weather around them. So, what can YOU teach? The successful candidate must have a passion for winning and telling a compelling, multi-platform weather story even on bright sunny days. The ideal candidate embraces new technology and is willing to explore new ways to present the weather story including the use of live cameras and images/videos from our viewers. You'll help our audience understand the climate around them, and how changes in it are impacting them where they live.
Responsibilities:
• Provide accurate and compelling weather forecasts in a multi-platform environment.
• Produce clean, creative, and informative graphics to tell the weather story.
• Write, edit, and report from the field or inside the newsroom.
• Update website and interact with viewers on social media platforms daily.
• Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
• Make public appearances.
• Effectively and positively reflect the station in the community at all times.
Job Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree, in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science required.
• Minimum of five years of on-air experience as a Broadcast Meteorologist.
• Applicants should have, or be qualified to apply for, the AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist or the AMS Seal of Demonstrated ability to post forecasts, graphics, etc. to various digital media platforms.
• Be available to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays and fill-in when weather dictates or when necessary.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast paced and deadline driven environment.
