Job Description

KHOU in Houston, Texas seeks a dynamic, engaging and enterprising journalist who wants to be in one of the busiest, most diverse news markets in the country to join our team. This journalist will solo anchor weekend morning shows and report three days a week. The successful candidate must be deeply committed to local news; be a natural competitor - wanting to consistently break lead stories in the Houston market and love covering breaking news and weather. In addition, they must be an excellent storyteller, developer of sources and understand the news cycle extends to multiple platforms. Someone who is willing and able to create unique and shareable stories for all platforms.
**Prior morning anchor experience is preferred.**

Responsibilities:
• Anchor weekend morning newscasts, along with any breaking news either on-air or on KHOU.com.
• Deliver on-air news reports in an engaging and accurate manner.
• Enterprise compelling content that can lead shows, break news and drive an audience to watch.
• Develop news sources for general assignment and special areas of interest.
• Need to have or develop skills to shoot, write and edit content for air as a multiskilled journalist.
• Write and post daily on all digital platforms and social media.
• Transmit and present exciting live reports.
• Perform other tasks as required by supervisor.

Job Requirements:
• 5-7 years combined news anchoring and reporting/MSJ experience.
• Houston and Texas knowledge and connections preferred
• Journalist and/or Mass Communications degree.
• A portfolio with examples of strong breaking, general, and feature news reporting as a multiskilled journalist.
• Ability to generate creative: engaging and content-driven live shots.
• Strong social media skills, including an understanding on all social platforms – current and emerging.
• Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines.
