Job Description
Sony Pictures Television (SPT), a Sony Pictures Entertainment company, is one of the television industry's leading content providers. In addition to one of the industry's largest libraries of award-winning feature films, television shows and formats, SPT boasts a current program slate that includes top-rated daytime dramas and game shows, landmark off-network series, original animated series and critically acclaimed primetime dramas, comedies and telefilms. The Head of Comedy specifically will be supporting our scripted productions for the US TV studio.

The SVP Comedy will report to the Head of Comedy and be a senior member of the development team.

Responsibilities:
• Oversee Development , some C urrent and C asting for C omedy S eries .
• Field pitches, identify trends, and help establish the strategic development goals for the Comedy department
• Must attend major industry events and screenings, pulse on emerging talent and active participant in the creative community.
• Develop new and current programming, including identifying and securing new talent for projects in development
• Build and maintain relationships with production and/or co-production partners Identify new business opportunities, pursuing potential deals where appropriate
• Provide notes on cuts and scripts
• Oversee the development of internal formats, from initial idea
or concept through to creation of episodic bible
• Find and pitch new material to executive leadership
• Provide notes on story concepts ,
outline s and script s for projects in development
• Introduce new writers to the studio with the potential for future development
• Assist the development team in identifying concepts and talent
• Work with Business Affairs to close talent and production deals
• Work with Production to ensure that agreed to concepts are fully realized in production
• Spearhead internal concepting for shows that will expand the brand
• May supervise the production of series , a ttend shoots, and work with the Executive Producers and production finance and planning to solve budget issues
• Work with the Programming department to ensure that agreed to concepts are fully realized in production
• A ct as creative executive on run-throughs and tapings
• Build and maintain relationships with producers, directors, and production companies
• Serve as liaison between production and other network departments including publicity, marketing, finance, etc.
• Work strategically with producers and network to continuously reinvigorate current series and develop
• Participate in the development of internal formats and give feedback on concepts, reels, casting, and cuts .

Requirements :
• Bachelor's degree in Media , Television, Film
or related subject
• 1 2+ years minimum experience in comedy television development at a Network or Streaming Service , Hands-on experience, ideally from both a production and a development stand-point
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint
• 8 years minimum experience in television and talent development , casting and production in comedy , preferred
• Must have Experience in either generating and taking pitches for a production company OR taking pitches for a network or cable network Strong relationships with the agent and production community
• Must have sound editorial judgement with a background in producing, writing and content development is a plus.
• Expertise in programming
or development for matrixed Network Television market
• Exhibit flexibility, excellent communication skills and relationship building ability
• Assertive, enthusiastic and highly motivated self-starter , p olished with good interpersonal skills
• Creative and passionate Innovative and entrepreneurial spirit who is assertive, enthusiastic and highly motivated Experience in television development
• Strong relationships with Talent, Agents, Managers, W riters and P roducers
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, innovative, and high energy environment
• Must be diplomatic with expert problem-solving skills .
• Knowledge of basic web technology , streaming platforms and social media

The anticipated base salary for this position is $300K to $400K. This role may also qualify for annual incentive and/or comprehensive benefits. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location of the position.
