Sr. Machine Room Engineer / Quality Assurance

Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) operates their primary Vault facility in Inwood NY. This facility stores all corporate assets and has several specialty rooms including a Video Machine room managed by Distribution Content Services (DCS) Technical Services. There is a large initiative to expand in-house tape digitization capabilities in support of expanding sales of SPE's catalog titles. The role of the Technical Engineer is to be the technical expert on all video/digital equipment and workflow within the Machine Room, liaison between senior management and support a larger studio wide Digital Media Supply Chain transformational initiatives under guidance of leadership.

Responsibilities Include:
• Providing subject matter expertise on video production, quality control including the continual maintenance and upgrade of all video and capture equipment. Troubleshoot and diagnose problematic tape/file material and equipment, ensure satisfactory action is taken and completed.
• Overseeing and providing technical subject matter expertise on day-to-day strategic encode project work, reporting of progress to leadership, including financial and risk management to ensure DCS/Studio projects are delivered on time with anticipated benefits on track for delivery.
• Collaborate with all DCS departments in reviewing and resolving file and tape rejections issues. Communicate with client to resolve issues, and recommend continuous process improvement regarding capture, conform and file workflow.
• Design, implement and train on all equipment in Machine room operation
• Provide concise weekly reporting of activities to management
• Participating in industry forums, supplier demos, and other industry activities to ensure constant awareness of industry trends and best practices

Qualifications:
• 8-10 Years in Production, Post-Production, or Distribution technical operations experience/ Lab tape and file mastering, quality control operation/ Film, Television Asset Management and Preservation
• Bachelors degree required; MBA or additional technical schooling preferred
• Demonstrated understanding and alignment with core principles of our DCS vision
• Strong knowledge on the lifecycle of legacy media assets to digital workflow (catalog film and tape to file based workflows)
• Demonstrated ability and good track record with problem solving day-to-day roadblocks encountered in fast pace Video Machine room
• Ability to communicate and work effectively with DCS team members, bringing key stakeholders together collaboratively toward division and studio goals.
• Experience successfully developing cost savings/value generation initiatives within DCS, including workflow, technology enhancements, or implementation of operational best practices
• Experience supporting media systems/workflow development for a post-production or media facility, has deep knowledge of post-production processes, or deep understanding of media systems and the workflows they support
• Have a pulse on the state of the industry, solutions available on the market, and the viability of potential solutions
• Expert knowledge on use and calibration of the following video equipment; Sony HDCAMSR SWR-5800, Sony HDCAM JH3, Panasonic D5 HD3700A, Panasonic S68, DVD DV-393, DA88player DA98HR – DA38, Ampex 1'' PAL video tape player, Sony ¾ PAL BVU-950P, Sony 1'' NTSC player BVH 3100, Sony D1 DVR-2100, Sony Betacam NTSC/PAL J-30, Sony NTSC/PAL D2 DVR-28, Leader LV 5770 HD/SD/SDI WFM & Vector Scope
• Ability to work independently to solve problems in both the video and IT domains
• Experience working with an enterprise, or workstation, encoding solution such as, AWS Elemental, AJA Kona, or Black Magic.
• Comfortable with Mac, Linux, and Windows environments.
