Job Description
Sony Pictures Television Game Shows Division is seeking a Specialist of Clearance and Licensing reporting to the Director of Clearance & Licensing, Business & Legal Affairs. The Specialist will be a key member of a multifaceted team that develops, produces, markets/promotes, and licenses game shows and related consumer products for any SPT game shows. The Specialist will handle clearance and licensing for all SPT game shows, including original concept and library game shows, during development and through all phases of production.

RESPONSIBILITIES TO INCLUDE:
• Review, research, and clear game show material and in-show content, as necessary.
• Negotiate and draft clearance/license agreements (e.g., artwork, clips, graphics).
• Negotiate and draft joint promotion agreements.
• Create clearance/licensing packets for series episodes.
• Maintain database of clearance records and agreements.
• Review television scripts, dailies, final cuts, and marketing, merchandising and promotional materials to assess and manage legal issues while also supporting Producers' creative vision and goals.
• Collaborate with Marketing, Promotions, and Social/Digital Marketing teams regarding clearance of promotional content.
• Liaise with Risk Management, Accounting and Copyright departments.
• Review contractual obligations and create show credits.
• Assist with maintaining annual subscriptions as needed (e.g., stock photos).
• Work together, collaborate, and maintain strong relationships with external parties (e.g., studio representatives, book publishers, music companies/publishers, stock footage/photo companies, copyright holders, etc.) and internal SPT and Game Show Division teams.

REQUIREMENTS:

Skills & Competencies
• Thorough understanding of television production and related clearance issues.
• Excellent research skills and techniques.
• Ability to anticipate and preemptively resolve complicated clearance issues under tight deadlines.
• Ability to comprehend and effectively explain complex legal assessments.
• Working knowledge of advanced legal concepts including: fair use, right of publicity, invasion of privacy, defamation, and false association. Accurately applies these principles when assessing issues related to parody, satire, commentary, and copyright and trademark uses.
• Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel) with fast, accurate typing and excellent proofreading skills.
• Excellent written (spelling, punctuation, grammar) and oral (professional and friendly demeanor) communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize with attention to detail.
• Ability to independently solve problems.
• Takes responsibility for and ownership of tasks and able to meet deadlines.
• Must be a professional self-starter able to prioritize in a fast-paced environment to ensure that all assignments are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
• Exceptional organization and interpersonal skills, the ability to troubleshoot, and discretion with regard to confidential projects and issues.

Experience
• 3+ years of previous clearance experience, in game shows/unscripted TV preferred.

Education
• Education: B.A., B.S., or equivalent preferred.

The anticipated base salary for this position is $70,000 to $85,000. This role may also qualify for incentives and/or comprehensive benefits. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location of the position.
