Job Description
The Sony Pictures Music Publishing and Copyright team oversees the administration of all original music composed, owned and/or controlled by Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) for use in and in connection with its productions domestically and internationally, as well as in SPE format shows worldwide.

The Manager of Music Publishing/Copyright will report to the Executive Director of Music Publishing/Copyright and will be responsible for: creating, filing, distributing and submitting all music cue sheets; preparing Assignments of Copyright; entering the respective music rights into the Music Affairs Group administration system (MAGIC); servicing SPE's music administrator (Sony Music Publishing); and functioning as the main point of contact for publishing and copyright questions related to each production assigned to the role.

The ideal candidate has a thorough understanding of music publishing, performing rights and copyright administration, and is experienced in the creation and administration of music cue sheets for motion picture and television productions.

Responsibilities:
• Review composer agreements, songwriter agreements, and other music documents prepared by attorneys for various Film/TV Productions and digest pertinent music publishing information (i.e., rights acquired, any restrictions, exclusivities and/or special instructions).
• Prepare Assignments of Copyright (transfer of rights) by analyzing various agreements for relevant information. Originals will be sent to the Library of Congress to complete chain of title registration.
• Attend music screenings of current feature productions and occasionally television movie productions with the sole purpose of creating a music cue sheet. This involves timing the music used in the production as well as confirming the usage, title, writers, publishers and song splits. Work directly with Music Editors to train on RapidCue and be available for questions.
• Serve as a point of contact on relevant Productions for all inquiries regarding music research, disputes, counterclaims, as well as questions from outside parties. Based on music publishing experience and knowledge, use good judgment to know when to escalate legal issues to attorneys, and be able to adjust priorities independently and proceed accordingly.
• Draft service memo to SPE's publishing administrator, defining rights obtained and pertinent agreement details. Deliver the music cue sheet, along with any original song details, charts, mechanical splits and the soundtrack agreements necessary for issuing of mechanical licenses.
• Enter song data input into SPE's music rights management system (MAGIC) for all score cues listed the music cue sheet, main and end titles, all original songs, and songs released on Soundtracks.
• Participate in and prepare for post-mortem meetings with all parties involved in music business affairs regarding the completion of specific Productions. The post-mortem report includes a detailed final review of a production (Film or TV) from a music perspective to assure that all details are properly aligned and completed.
• Serve as a member of the publishing/copyright team in the development and expansion of SPE's music rights management system.
• Assist with training and coaching of junior team members by providing efficient step-by-step processes for screenings and creation of cue sheets.

Requirements:
• 4-6 years of experience with and a thorough understanding of music publishing, performing rights, music copyright administration, motion picture/television production, and film and television cue sheets.
• Detail oriented and highly organized.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Self-starter, but has the skill set to work with a team.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a timely manner.
• Bachelor's Degree preferred
• Proficient in MS Office, MS Excel and RapidCue
