Data Scientist

In the role of Data Scientist for Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, you must possess a passion for pioneering an empirical and data-driven culture. The candidate must have a proven track record of extracting meaningful consumer and business insights from data. Reporting to Director, Data Science, this role will provide guidance for TV Distribution and Home Entertainment in consumer data-driven decision making and use analytics to drive the growth and success of the business. Position based in Culver City.

Responsibilities:

Collaborating with Business partners
• Execute the data vision strategy and goals ensuring those are consistent with the Division's business requirements.
• As part of the Data Science team, help develop analytical capabilities and tools to enable data query and respond to business requests.
• Contribute and provide thought leadership to the business and key stakeholders.

Deliver advanced analytics
• Using big data to independently generate consumer insights and perform analyses like affinity indexing, portraying the audience, and assessment engagement.
• Generate actionable insights using advanced statistical techniques such as predictive statistical models, simulations, and segmentation analysis.
• Understand in depth, design and inform statistically valid tests with test and control groups and to manage the process of identifying testing strategies.
• Develop new approaches to understand the consumer and solve complex business problems such as optimizing title adoption and discerning what users are think about content.
• Research new ways for modeling and predicting end-user behavior. Help design experiments to answer targeted questions.
• Interpret and communicate results from analysis, statistical modeling, and machine learning into measurable business impact.

Model Productionalization
• Work with ML Engineer to prouductionalize machine learning models, including Docker container creation, testing, deployment, and monitoring.
• Set up dashboards to monitor feature drift and model performance.

Data Exploration
• Can ingest, connect, cleanse and profile large data sets (big data) Performs quality checks at each steps to ensure data used is valid.
• Comfort with managing ingestion and cleansing of large unstructured data and developing analytical capability to query the data and respond to user requests using a wide range of technologies.
• Comfort using extensive and often disjointed and unstructured datasets to independently generate consumer insights with the intent of creating manageable analytical processes

Data Visualization and Story Telling
• Comfort with experimenting with various tools and technologies with the end goal of creating innovative data driven insights at a quick pace.
• Ability to pull insights out of large amounts of data and analysis, and create actionable recommendations for the business user.

Qualifications:
• Must have an in depth knowledge of advanced statistical and ML techniques including regressions, clustering, variable reduction, non-parametric tests and forecasting methodologies.
• Must have an in depth knowledge of model interpretability techniques including feature importance, Shapley values, and relative importance.
• Experience with big data and standardizing/ appending variables across disparate data sets
• Experience with A/B testing and test and control test designs
• Working knowledge of external data sources especially as related to the consumer.
• Highly analytical, results oriented, have superior organizational skills with a strong attention to details and deadlines and be able to effectively manage multiple projects/assignments simultaneously.
• Curious about data and problem solving: intrinsic ability to look at data and identify patterns, problems, or analysis opportunities
• BA/BS degree required with technical focus (e.g. mathematics, computer science, physics)
• MS or PhD degree preferred
• Minimum of 2-3 years of progressively complex related experience
• Experience with Python or R and SQL
• Experience with Periscoep, Dash/Shiny, AWS (Airflow, Sagemaker) preferred, but not required
• Comfortably interact with various members of the organization
• Business experience in media industry preferred, but not required
• Collaborative – a team player who is able to thrive as an individual but also enjoy working with partners within the analytics group but also cross department
