Director, People Experience Business Partner (PX)
Sony Music Entertainment (SME) is looking for an innovative, solution-driven, strategic, human centered People Experience Director in our Business Partner team, to join our squad of progressive, diverse People eXperience Team (formally known as Human Resources). In this role, you will be responsible for the People Experience strategy, partnership and execution across a group of small to medium sized business units, across Sony Music Entertainment.
The ideal candidate will contribute at both hands-on and strategic levels to cultivate an innovative, progressive diverse culture and practices, across the employee lifecycle. You will have experience with integrating and working with creative environments and influencing senior leadership. You will bring thought leadership and creative solutions, as well as exceptional relationship building skills and the ability to adapt, lead and drive change. Experience working with recently acquired businesses or start-ups advantageous.
Reporting to VP, People Experience and working closely with Business Unit leadership group. This role will be a Flex First role (in-office and working remotely) with occasional travel involved.
What you'll do
• Collaborate with the business units to define organization and people strategies that effectively support the business strategy and deliver results.
• Act as a consultant and coach, delivering insights and solutions to the leadership team to address various people challenges and opportunities.
• Drive adoption and understanding of the PX(HR) programs and policies and be an ambassador for diversity, equity, inclusion, and the future of a more flexible, human workplace.
• Coach and consult the business group leadership on their people strategy, including team structure (organizational design), strategic diverse hiring, performance management, career development, compensation, recognition and engagement strategies.
• Mentor and coach on continuous improvement methodology and partner with the L&D department for training and development solutions for your business units as needed.
• Act as a subject matter expert on legal and regulatory requirements and employee relations issues in conjunction with best practices and partnership with People Relations and Legal team, to ensure business unit compliance and effectiveness.
• Partner with business leadership on the identification of top talent and support creation of effective and high impact development and succession plans to engage and retain talent.
• Partner with Talent Acquisition team to create first class recruiting experiences for future SME talent in both early and experienced career journeys
• Support overall DEI Strategy by partnering and coaching leadership, collaborating with the Office of DEI and supporting DEI initiatives as needed.
• Work closely with management and employees to develop a progressive, healthy culture, engagement and working environment in which all folks can thrive.
• Provide transformational advice on areas including change management initiatives, organizational, departmental restructures, and job role design, to improve efficiency, clarify accountabilities and support delivery of an exceptional employee experience.
• Use relevant people data to inform and create insights for the labels and business groups to inform decision-making, team performance and optimize organizational health.
• Lead the annual compensation process for business unit, serving as key PX resource for business leaders
• Gain and maintain knowledge of industry, cultural trends and competitive landscape to provide holistic perspective and consultation.
• Have a general understanding of how the business works. Stay current on industry challenges, changes and practices to provide timely and relevant support, guidance, and solutions to your assigned business unit(s).
• Actively participate in, and at times, take the lead on various Sony Music HR initiatives and special projects contributing to the People Experience for the entire SME organization.
Who you are:
• Experienced human resource professional with a broad knowledge of human resource management best practices, human and team dynamic practices (including talent management, cultural dynamics, employee engagement, compensation practices, organizational and team design, employee relations, and performance management) typically gained through 10+ years of experience in a senior business partner or Director human resources role.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – includes understanding of cultural differences, nuances and working effectively across borders with the ability to connect with all levels of the organization.
• Articulate and clear in written and verbal communication. Engaging presentations to large groups and teams. Provides ideas and thought leadership on people topics.
• Demonstrates impactful presence, human centered, curiosity and collaboration. Role models this within the team and with their partners.
• Agile thinker with the ability to be highly creative, innovative and future oriented as it relates to People solutions.
• Comfortable with ambiguity, change and complexity. Leads with a growth mindset.
• Highly impactful at connecting, engaging, influencing and partnering with senior leadership, employees, internal and external partners at all levels
• Drives change processes by applying change management methods and experience design thinking approach.
• Demonstrates empathy and experience to drive diversity, equity & inclusion strategies into accountable action.
• Demonstrated experience learning and leading in a constantly changing environment and cultivate relationships across diverse specialist teams
• Experience using data to identify insights that drive action
• Excellent consulting, coaching and strong people management skills
• Knowledge of US state and federal employment legislation as well as HR systems and reporting tools
• Experience in a large, complex/matrixed organization preferred; ideally in a creative industry (music, television, entertainment, etc.)
• Experience with start-up business cultures an advantageous addition
• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Communications, Psychology, or related field preferred
