Job Description

We're hiring a smart, driven and exceptional Business and Legal Affairs Coordinator to provide high-level direct support to the business and legal affairs team of Sony Music Masterworks. This is a role reporting directly to the SVP, Business and Legal Affairs and provides support to three additional attorneys with everyday functions. The role will also work closely with the A&R Administration and Finance Departments. Candidate must be a highly motivated professional with a strong work ethic, an enthusiastic attitude and the proven ability to consistently perform positively in a fast-paced, challenging work environment.

What you'll do:
• Review, summarize, manage and track a wide variety of contracts, including, without limitation, recording agreements, soundtrack license agreements, producer agreements, side artist agreements, video production agreements, creative services agreements, remix agreements and label waivers
• Draft approval memos at direction of counsel to secure senior executive approval of deal terms, circulate documents for signature and send fully executed agreements to records for retention and upload to the CARMA database
• Draft and circulate new project forms in Adobe Sign at direction of counsel to inform finance, production and royalties administration of the commencement of new recording projects for purposes of ensuring proper setup within various systems
• Communicate with AFTRA and AF of M with respect to reuse fee payment elections and compliance with the applicable terms and conditions of such elections
• Draft, review, edit, proofread and negotiate agreements and various legal documents under the direction of counsel
• Support third party clearance consultant in connection with securing rights to include various recordings in educational materials
• Work with counsel to clear third party owned recordings for inclusion in soundtracks as needed
• Legal document preparation, including drafting option exercise and termination letters, and updating contract templates

Who you are:
• Possess a Bachelor's Degree with demonstrated learning potential (i.e., strong academic performance, prior industry experience/interest) required
• Minimum of 1-2 years relevant experience within the music or entertainment industry in business affairs, licensing or entertainment law firm strongly preferred. Prior experience as a paralegal a plus
• Basic knowledge of the music industry, entertainment law and/or intellectual property preferred
• Experience working with contracts and various intellectual property matters preferred
• Experience working with confidential and sensitive content preferred
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
• Ability to prioritize, multi-task, problem solve and work well under pressure required
• Self-motivated/ability to work both independently and in a team and collaborative environment
• Strong attention to detail, timely and accurate, and meticulous organizational skills
• Ability to produce accurate legal documents with minimal supervision
• Excellent oral and written communicator, with proven ability to proofread (e.g., knowledge of punctuation, grammar and spelling)
• Highly organized and proactive self-starter, able to juggle multiple projects
• Excellent interpersonal skills
