Narrative Lead
We are Media Molecule, a multi- award winning game developer and part of the wider PlayStation Studios group. We have a history of creating outstanding games such as LittleBigPlanet, Tearaway and most recently, the BAFTA Award winning Dreams. It's a fantastic time to join us as we embark on our next adventure, defining and executing the vision for our next project and settling into our gorgeous, newly refurbished studio in central Guildford. We are now looking for a talented Narrative Lead to join our team.
Reporting to the Design Manager , the Narrative Lead's key responsibilities will include :
• Develop ing strong working relationships with the Creative Leadership team and core discipline leads – championing and integrating the narrative team with all other areas of game development .
• Overall responsibility for the creation and implementation of a sustainable narrative roadmap and working within the constraints of the project .
• Working proactively with all departments to identify
opportunities for deep collaboration with narrative.
• Creating the game's story and dialogue, defining innovative briefs and supporting the creation of a multitude of new characters and stories, in line with Creative Direction.
• Responsible for world-building, establishing the tone, developing the narrative pillars and story.
• Leading the team towards the design and usage
of narrative systems , tools and processes to deliver story within the core loop.
• Build ing a high-performance narrative team – selecting excellent outsource partners and hiring in house talent.
• Day to day mentoring of the narrative team, encouraging autonomy, mastery, and purpose.
• Fostering a creative, diverse, inclusive and positive approach both to game and team culture.
• Lead by example - create, assess, and improve high-level narrative designs for gameplay features and modes .
Expected Skills and Experience:
• Significant experience in Senior Narrative Design roles within the games industry from concept ideation and roadmap definition through to commercial release.
• Strong track record
of innovation in story development and narrative design.
• Proven experience with managing, motivating, inspiring and upskilling a high performing narrative team.
• Exceptional writing and editing skills as well as great attention to detail
• Demonstrable skills in all aspects of the story design process, including ideation, writing, revision, editing, responding to multiple sources of feedback, and self-critique.
• Strong understanding of impact and flavour that writing style, rhythm and pacing can bring to a game.
• Exceptional communication and collaboration skills with proven success ability to influence and problem solve effectively.
