Job Description
Our Software R&D department is responsible for developing Pixar's in-house and open source software. We work very closely with both artists and engineers to build innovative filmmaking tools that enable our film production and continuously extend artistic reach. At Pixar, we are all a part of the storytelling process, and you will have an opportunity to partner with our filmmakers as we make the best movies in the world.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Collaborate with storytellers, artists, editors, and software engineers during the iterative, creative process of making our award-winning films as they use software you wrote
• Design, develop, and maintain our modern software, employing strong principles for code quality and maintainability
• Incorporate the unique requirements for new and improved filmmaking processes into plans for tool functionality spanning the pre-production, production, and post-production lifecycle
• Collaborate with researchers on innovative and interesting new techniques for meeting the software needs of our animators and artists
• Contribute to Open Source projects used in the filmmaking industry, such as OpenTimelineIO
• Present your work to the engineering and filmmaking teams
• Mentoring other engineers

QUALIFICATIONS:
• 3-5+ years of strong professional engineering experience
• Ability to design & architect sophisticated software systems in Python, C++ and/or Swift
• Strong software engineering skills, and dedicated craftsmanship are a requirement. Git, code reviews, automated testing, and continuous integration are key parts of our workflow
• Ability to trouble-shoot with a high attention to detail and quality
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• Proficiency in macOS/iOS and/or Linux environments and modern UI frameworks, such as AppKit/UIKit or Qt
• Have the ability to listen well, and communicate clearly
• Thrive in a collaborative and diverse environment where you exchange knowledge with accomplished technicians and draw inspiration from extraordinary artists
• Able to work a hybrid model

PREFERRED:

You should have experience with at least a few, ideally several, of the following. We do not expect you to know all of these.
• Film/animation production environment
• Building filmmaking production pipelines
• Video production tools (e.g. Avid, Premiere, Final Cut, Nuke, FFmpeg)
• Editorial formats (e.g. AAF, EDL, OTIO, etc.)
• Video/audio formats & codecs (e.g. MOV, MXF, h264, DNX, etc.)
• Drawing tools (e.g. Photoshop, Procreate, etc.)
• Web services (e.g. REST, etc.)
• Modern computer graphics, OpenGL, Metal and GPU technologies
