Job Description
As the Senior Avid Editorial Engineer at Pixar, you'll manage the complete lifecycle of our editorial systems, from design and testing to implementation and ongoing support. You'll collaborate closely with a diverse group of stakeholders, including fellow engineers, editorial teams, production staff, and industry partners. Your deep understanding of editorial workflows and technical expertise will enable you to proactively address challenges, create innovative solutions, and ensure a seamless editorial environment. Your contributions will be critical in maintaining the stable and reliable systems Pixar depends on to edit and deliver high-quality content.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• System Support & Troubleshooting: Provide expert-level support for Avid Media Composer software and hardware, diagnosing and resolving issues from simple to complex, and developing effective, timely workarounds
• Vendor Collaboration: Serve as the primary liaison with Avid, effectively communicating software bugs, advocating for quick resolutions, and driving feature requests to improve operations
• Computer Infrastructure: Manage and maintain the editorial computer fleet, including testing new software and hardware, and planning and performing upgrades to hardware, operating systems, and software
• Workflow Optimization: Design, implement, and support on-site and remote hardware, ensuring adherence to Pixar's security standards
• Edit Suite Management: Maintain the physical infrastructure of edit suites, including dismantling and building systems in an organized and tidy manner in order to support production needs
• Storage Management: Monitor the health of the Avid NEXIS storage system, plan for capacity growth, and ensure compatibility with other software
• Storage Administration: Administer NEXIS user privileges, workspaces, and storage allocation to optimize resources and stay within bandwidth limitations
• Editorial Guidance: Provide expert guidance and support to editorial staff on best practices and procedures to maintain healthy workflows across all productions
• Team Collaboration: Train team members and foster a collaborative environment among your peers
• Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including procedures, recommended practices, and detailed system diagrams.
• Technology Advancement: Proactively research and evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends, identifying opportunities to improve the efficiency and quality of our editorial environment
QUALIFICATIONS:
• 7+ years of experience providing technical support to editorial departments in a demanding, fast-paced production environment
• Expert-level knowledge of Avid media management, backups, and recovery procedures within shared storage environments (e.g., Avid NEXIS)
• Strong understanding of audio mixers, acoustics, and audio calibration
• Experience supporting Pro Tools systems and recording studio environments
• Advanced proficiency in macOS, including command-line operations and the ability to filter and analyze logs
• Proficiency in Windows OS
• Deep understanding of networking principles, network security protocols, and storage technologies
• Proven experience leading complex technical projects involving multiple stakeholders
• Demonstrated ability to manage projects effectively, delivering high-quality results on schedule, both independently and in collaboration with others
• Strong understanding of various post-production workflows, from ingesting and storing material to editing, color correction, final sound mixes, and delivery
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Avid ACSR certification and other relevant Avid certifications
• Experience with JAMF
• Familiarity with other editing software, such as Adobe Premiere and DaVinci Resolve
• Experience using power tools to mount hardware. Capable of lifting up to 35 pounds
The hiring range for this position in Emeryville is $145,265.00 to $187,990.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
