Render Support Engineer

Job Description

The Production Systems Operations team at Pixar builds, maintains, and architects the high-performance computing infrastructure that helps create our award-winning movies and Disney Streaming content. Each production pushes the limits of animation technology in unique ways, so our architecture needs to be multifaceted by design.

As a Render Support Engineer, you will be part of the team that ensures the highest levels of availability, performance and scalability on our 90,000+ core render farm while providing outstanding support for production's day to day activities. We are looking for someone who has a passion for solving technical problems using various technologies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Onboard and provide farm support for all productions within the studio pipeline
• Engage with Pixar artists/engineers in debugging technical issues and questions
• Active involvement with daily tasks to keep multiple shows running efficiently
• Ensure farm health using various monitoring tools
• Assist with maintaining, provisioning and repairing farm machines using various software tools
• Document standard runbooks and operating procedures
• Collaborate and communicate across production and other technical departments
• Participate in rotation of off-hours on call support

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Pipeline experience in film or animation or visual effects industry
• Excellent verbal and written communication with users of various technical levels
• Experience in system administration, internet protocols, machine lifecycle supporting Linux (RedHat/CentOS preferred) on various platforms (virtual/baremetal/on-demand)
• Experience working with and maintaining configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Salt, or similar)
• Proficiency with diagnostic and performance monitoring tools (Cacti, Zabbix, Splunk, Grafana, etc)
• B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent degree or work experience

PREFERRED SKILLS:
• Programming skills in one or more scripting languages (Python, Go, Bash, etc.)
• Understanding of Revision Control Systems, preferably Perforce and Git
• Experience with virtualization and container platforms such as Docker, VMWare, KVM, Rancher
