Senior Director, Philanthropic Communications (Hybrid)

Position Overview:

The PBS Foundation provides philanthropic support on behalf of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and its member stations. In supporting PBS, the PBS Foundation seeks private funds from individuals, foundations, and corporations for priority initiatives and carries out such activities as prospect identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and donor stewardship; generation of proposals; and grants and gift management.

Reporting to the Foundation's Vice President and Deputy Director and working closely with PBS staff, the Director, Philanthropic Communications is responsible for developing and managing materials and resources to communicate effectively with donors and prospective donors. The Director oversees a portfolio of ongoing projects to help steward this population.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
• Creates and manages a strategy for a wide variety of internal and external communications for PBS Foundation-related initiatives.

• Oversees, writes and edits PBS Foundation communications, including: newsletters, project descriptions, summaries of fundraising opportunities; proposals, and other externally-focused marketing and communications materials.

• Closely collaborates with all PBS Foundation staff, especially frontline fundraisers, to create effective donor and prospect communications and touch points including but not limited to donor acknowledgements, reports, updates and e-blasts

• Manages relationships with outside communications firms to develop and oversee the creation of marketing materials.

• Serves as the liaison when working with internal and external creative vendors to produce promotional materials.

• Develops website architecture, creates and manages website content and upgrades, tests for website performance, implements strategies to increase newsletter subscribers, and troubleshoots website issues.

• Supervises the Events Manager, who is responsible for all cultivation, recognition, and celebration events, identifying opportunities to connect donors and prospects with the institution

• Serves as Foundation Liaison to PBS Corporate Communications.

• Supports and enforces PBS's branding guidelines in the creation of PBS Foundation materials and ensures compliance when working with external vendors.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements for success:
• At least 10 years of experience in Development/Fundraising Communications in a non-profit and/or educational institution.

• Bachelor's degree in a related field is required, master's degree preferred

• Experience using and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and marketing platforms.

• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

• Exceptional interpersonal and judgment skills

• Demonstrated strong organization skills with attention to detail

• Self-motivated individual who can work independently and as part of a team in a highly-collaborative environment

• Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals within the organization

• Ability to set priorities, organize, and manage diverse activities to meet deadlines

• Consistently demonstrates respect for inclusion, diversity, and ethics

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook)
