Director, HR Business Partner

Team: Human Resources

Status: Full-Time/Regular/Exempt

The HR Business Partner (HRBP) is responsible for aligning business objectives with employees and leadership primarily in the PBS General Audience and Kids Content corporate area. The position serves as a consultant to management on human resource-related policies and issues. The HRBP acts as an employee champion and change agent, and provides guidance to convert strategies into result driven actions.

The HRBP assesses and anticipates HR-related needs, and communicates needs proactively within the HR department and business management and seeks to develop integrated solutions. The position formulates partnerships with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) within the organization, e.g., HR and Finance, or outside third parties to deliver value-added service to management and employees that reflect the business objectives of the organization. Reporting directly to the SVP of Human Resources, the HRBP shapes how the organization perceives HR value.

Essential duties will include, but are not limited to:
• Strategic Partner and Change Agent
• With corporate area head, creates a vision for the culture and talent strategy for the corporate area.

• Provides guidance and input on corporate area restructures, workforce planning, and succession planning, to include championing change management and effective communications.

• Recommends, implements, and reviews diversity and inclusion solutions that reduce bias and ensure equity and fairness in talent decisions.

• Provides guidance and support in planning and executing initiatives to positively impact employee engagement, such as employee surveys, focus groups, and events.

• Proactively analyzes employee trends and metrics, developing programs and solutions as appropriate.

• Works with the Learning & Development function to develop manager capability and the next generation of leaders.

• Serves as a strategic thought partner to leaders and managers.
• Employee Advocate & Support

• Strives to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.

• Quickly responds to employee concerns and issues.

• Identifies training and coaching needs, recommends solutions, and follows up post-intervention to measure effectiveness.

• Serves as an advisor for career development.

• Ensures all employees have equitable access to reach their full potential.
• HR Operational Expert

• Provides day-to-day performance guidance to managers (coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).

• Supports managers in crafting positions that meet the needs of the business and workforce plan.

• Connects business unit employees to the appropriate HR SMEs to answer questions or facilitate effective solutions.

• Participates in leading the annual salary planning process for assigned business units, ensuring an objective and equitable process.

• Partners with management, third party consultants, and HR SMEs to ensure equitable compensation throughout business units; monitors market trends, and makes recommendations to help PBS keep pace; and advises on new hire offers, annual salary planning process, and ad hoc salary increases.

• Partners with HR functions such as Talent Acquisition, Compensation, Benefits, and Learning & Development to execute related actions in support of assigned business units.

• Manages and resolves employee relations issues. Conducts effective, thorough, and objective investigations. Escalate issues to leadership and counsel as appropriate.

• Identifies risks and partners with leadership and counsel to proactively mitigate and or develop appropriate resolutions.

• Provides HR policy guidance and interpretation.

Requirements for success:
• At least six years' related experience in a progressive HR organization, including experience in a media company area gaining knowledge and insight into media organization structures, roles, talent, and industry.

• Two years' successful HRBP experience preferred

• Experience working with a collective bargaining unit preferred

• Experience with HRIS required, Workday HCM preferred

• Proven experience managing multiple projects simultaneously

• Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in HR, Business, Industrial Relations, Organizational Development, or related field.

• Master's degree (or equivalent) in HR, Business, or Organizational Development or related field preferred

• HR Certification (e.g. PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP) is an asset

• Business acumen: learns the PBS business and uses insight about the environment to improve talent and business outcomes.

• Talent management: applies knowledge to impact talent acquisition, engagement, development, and succession strategies.

• Understanding of organizational development, training, leadership, performance management, and change management theories, methods, and practices

• Applies judgment to data to support business decision making

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

• Strong consultative orientation

• Ability to motivate and influence others; team-oriented and skilled at working within a collaborative environment

• Strong facilitation skills with the ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language

• Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities with keen attention to detail

• Ability to generate innovative solutions

• Ability to effectively prioritize and execute in a high-pressure environment, adapt to change and maintain flexibility

• Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills

• Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination by date of hire to be considered. Proof of vaccination required.
