Position Overview:

Reporting to the SVP, Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), this role will be a key partner, steward, champion, and thought leader to deepen PBS's commitment to DEI. To be successful in this role, candidates need a positive and holistic leadership style that inspires trust. The DEI Director's passion for furthering DEI must be clear to all as they lead collaborative efforts and leverage strong interpersonal and communications skills. Their analytical capabilities coupled with emotional intelligence will be called on regularly to translate ideas into action. The Director should be skilled in restorative practice, mindfulness, emotional intelligence and other holistic DEI techniques as they will be required to lead difficult conversations. They will be a trusted partner to internal and external stakeholders of all levels.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
• Work with the Head of DEI to help lead the ideation, development, coordination, administration, and management of all PBS DEI strategies, policies, messaging, programs, and other initiatives.

• Help develop and lead PBS's DEI strategy across PBS and provide DEI resources to its member stations.

• Design and deliver DEI initiatives for all PBS employees to foster greater inclusion and belonging.

• Build trusted partnerships with PBS employees, leaders, and member stations to create a safe space to hold and honor everyone's story.

• Provide coaching, education, and guidance for PBS groups supporting DEI.

• Identify, develop, and foster relationships with industry thought leaders, consultants, and partners to apply best practices and help drive a successful inclusive culture at PBS.

• Help manage the DEI budget and supervise other members of the DEI Team.

• Lead the design and execution of PBS cultural programs to educate employees on leadership, civility, emotional intelligence, and other tools supporting employee pride and advocacy.

• Partner closely with PBS internal stakeholder groups (including DEI Council, HR, Communications, General Audience and Children's Programming, Stations, Legal, Technology, and other business units) to develop, provide, and institutionalize PBS initiatives supporting DEI.

• Work with stakeholders to measure, track and analyze the effectiveness of DEI at PBS.

• Lead innovation labs, root cause analysis, restorative practices, and provide education to advance equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging.

• Serve as a liaison to similar institutions, organizations, cohorts, and committees supporting DEI throughout broadcasting, digital, and other types of media.

Requirements for success:
• A graduate degree in Diversity and Inclusion or a comparable field, accompanied by certifications in Diversity and Inclusion, including Metrics for DEI

• At least four years of experience in a DEI Office, which should include a managerial role.

• Being a well-versed change management agent

• Navigating crisis and conflict within an organization

• Anticipating future organizational needs and implications

• Leading brainstorming best practices, root cause analyses, DEI meetings, retreats, and restorative circles

• using quantitative and qualitative data to set vision for a team

• Collaborating to influence a variety of key stakeholders with divergent views

• Writing, researching, and speaking DEI best practices

• Managing DEI budgets and teams

• Experience working with ERGs, Taskforces and organizations committed to DEI

• Leading by example, demonstrating inclusive leadership skills in action

• Strong management skills, including the ability to provide direction and regular feedback to team

• Strong research, written and oral communication skills

• Ability to manage resources to achieve project goals within time and budget constraints

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage overlapping deadlines

• Ability to practice innovative and creative thinking, and to motivate others to do the same

• Ability to collaborate as a team player with all levels of staff and external stakeholders

• Strong interpersonal and emotional intelligence skills, including listening skills

• Ability to lead and train others in restorative practices

• Ability to lead and train others in implicit bias, emotional intelligence, root cause analysis, storytelling, and inclusive leadership

• Ability to lead a variety of mindfulness and well-being practices

• Strong respect for inclusion, diversity, and equity

• Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination by date of hire to be considered. Proof of vaccination required.
