DESCRIPTION:

Paramount + daily animated variety series TOONING OUT THE NEWS seeks a researcher, preferably with late night or network/cable news background.

TOONING OUT THE NEWS features a cast of animated characters parodying top news stories and interviewing real-world guests, newsmakers, and analysts. The series is executive produced by Stephen Colbert and Chris Licht of CBS' The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and RJ Fried and Tim Luecke from Showtime's Our Cartoon President.

This researcher will be responsible for footage and print research, with greater emphasis on footage. Applicants should have strong working knowledge of Snapstream, stock and news footage companies, and other footage resources. Must be comfortable in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines, and have a skill for identifying hypocrisy, illogical arguments, and magical thinking deployed by newsmakers on both sides of the aisle. This is a remote position but preference will be given to candidates located in the New York area or willing to relocate if it should become necessary.

This is currently a remote position but a New York based candidate preferred.

Responsibilities:
• Source and log requested footage clips and additional broll for daily show
• Work with editor to build montages of news clips
• Contribute to daily research newsletter
• Conduct deep dive research on guests and create packets
• Fact check scripts
• Proactively identify trending news stories and representative news clips, as well as seek out the stories that everyone else may be missing

QUALIFICATIONS:

Skills/Experience Required:
• Late night footage research, news, and/or journalism background preferred
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and keep up with the pace of a daily show is required
• Strong editorial judgement, intellectual curiosity, awareness of news and politics, and knowledge of the inner workings of government
• At least two years of television production, journalism, academic research or equivalent

Educational Requirements:
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience
