Producer, Eye on America Unit (The Evening News with Norah O'Donnell)

The CBS Evening News with Norah O'Donnell is seeking a Producer for the Eye on America unit. Eye on America - one of the most enduring and recognizable franchises at CBS News - is searching for a producer to become a pivotal member of the EOA team. The mission of Eye on America is to examine the key issues facing our nation with best-in-class writing, interviewing, shooting, and editing. These pieces will offer the CBS Evening News a substantive way to distinguish itself from the competition.

The ideal candidate will be an expert in developing, producing and writing stories from conception through final delivery. This person must possess a heightened curiosity about key news-of-the-day topics, an ability to identify strong characters and a keen eye in the field. Collaboration, resourcefulness, and superior writing skills are a must.

The responsibilities of the Producer for the Eye On America unit will include, but will not be limited to:
• Leading production efforts both in the field and in the edit room.
• Managing the production team including production of the story, working with a reporter and camera operators to set up interviews, gather video and collect information.
• Understanding the budgeting process.
• Arranging interviews and location shots and producing content under strict deadlines.
• Developing pitches for stories that fit the Eye on America brand.
• Maximizing content across multiple platforms
• Handling field production workflows from start through delivery.
• Working quickly and efficiently under tight deadlines.

Basic qualifications:
• At least 5 years of experience as a package producer with proven experience in the field, running story development and leading newsgathering efforts.
• Must be an exceptional writer who can add, shape or develop scripts for digital or TV quickly and accurately
• Extensive journalism experience is essential, including a strong background in writing, copy editing, and video production
• Production experience in breaking news and feature reporting
• Ability to shoot video and edit

Desired qualifications:
• At least one year experience with all levels of desk operations, specifically in coordination of domestic and international correspondents.
• Ability to multitask and perform at the highest levels under stress and tight deadlines
• Teammate who is able to work with a diverse group of people
• Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
• Strong writing, grammar and AP style background
• Strong news judgment and instincts

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Hiring Salary Range: $120,000.00 - 155,000.00.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
