Job Description
Responsibilities
OVERVIEW
The Senior Marketing Manager UK & Eire is responsible for developing, leading and executing consumer marketing campaigns for theatrical releases distributed by Universal Pictures International UK & Eire, as well as assuming responsibility for specific projects.
Reporting into the Head of Marketing and managing a team of four, this position plays a key role within the Marketing team and the broader UPI UK & Eire business.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Theatrical Releases Campaign Management:
• Manage the development and implementation of industry leading marketing campaigns for films of significant strategic, financial or Filmmaker importance
• Champion each assigned film to ensure it receives necessary attention and focus from internal teams, the broader organisation and agencies
• Lead regular multi-disciplinary meetings bringing together all teams (Marketing, Publicity, Special Projects, Partnerships, Sales), Media agency) to ensure campaigns remain on-strategy and all stakeholders have full visibility to campaign developments at all times
• Review and optimize digital media plans based on in-depth understanding of paid, owned and earned channels
• Manage social agency from briefing to film release to deliver consistent content delivery across the overarching film release campaigns
• Continually strive to innovate and be ahead of the competition with new initiatives and ideas that deliver efficient return on investment and maximise box office
• Responsible for organising and facilitating inspiring kick-off brainstorms on assigned films to ensure each film is uniquely nurtured and has a strong raft of creative ideas specific to its objectives, strategy and themes
• Operate as a market expert. The SMM must know what is working in the market and fully understand the consumer, the exhibitor, the market and the competition. Actively identify and share best practice with the broader marketing team
• Work in conjunction with Head of Marketing to seek efficiencies, develop initiatives and deliver best-practice

SPECIFIC DELIVERABLES

Campaign Development & Delivery:
• For each designated Universal theatrical release develop a fully integrated marketing plan with a clear communication strategy, a defined target audience, media plan, publicity, promotional and exhibitor marketing strategy
• Monitor and evaluate performance of assigned titles against marketing objectives, working closely with Head of Insights & Analysis and Mediacom to deliver PCA
• Manage extended teams (e.g. Second Unit and Marketing Support) on tentpole titles

Line Management:
Lead, motivate and develop a team of four:
• Three direct reports (two Marketing Managers, one Junior Marketing Manager)
• Provide clear guidance and goals for all direct reports. Coach direct reports in order to gain maximum output and efficiency for the business
• Provide direction & support for their campaigns, oversee campaign development, management, execution and approvals for their title campaigns
• Appraise and review in line with company policy
• Support Head of Marketing with management & development of broader marketing team, identify and recommend opportunities for growth

Digital:
On allocated titles:
• Manage digital strategy including audience planning, appropriate targeting and restrictions
• Monitor paid media performance across all major digital platforms and programmatic to ensure proper delivery against audiences and relevant KPIs
• Work with International Digital and Creative teams on content rollout, identifying asset gaps and territory-specific needs
• Responsible for regular digital reporting and measurement against KPIs as defined
• Manage social agency briefing process, review and approve content calendar and community management and ensure assets and tone are appropriately utilised
• Incorporate intelligent data collection and reuse into all activity

Projects:
• Working with Media agency, Head of Marketing & Group Marketing Director, oversee annual OOH negotiations with key media owners
• Seek occasions to step outside of core campaign management and explore strategic opportunities
• Management of, or participation in, additional strategic projects as defined by business needs

Budget:
• Manage the budget on each project or theatrical release allocated
• Deliver each project within the agreed P&L budget and for achieving the best possible balance between value for money and quality for each activity

Communication:
• Ensure clear & efficient flow of information and regular updates to Head of Marketing regarding campaigns managed by direct reports
• Encourage proactivity and optimum communication flow from Direct Reports, deliver efficiencies to ensure they – and all key stakeholders - have access to all campaign critical information at the appropriate time
• Ensure all Marketing Strategy documents are well drafted, accurate and up to date within the planning system
• Host, as required, regular team updates to ensure the marketing team are generating fresh and relevant ideas, that campaigns are evolving in line with expectations of the release and that the marketing team remains on strategy
• Represent the Universal theatrical team by presenting at company hosted launches, media events, promotional partner events and exhibitor events and as need require
• As required, attend company conferences and meetings to represent the UK theatrical team
• Communicate and work with production companies and film-makers during the campaign planning process, as required

Creative:
• Work with Head of Creative and the Global Creative and Marketing teams during the development of the creative campaigns and communication strategies for each release
• Responsible for adapting, developing and implementing the creative campaign and communications strategy for UK on allocated Universal theatrical releases, working closely with the Head of Creative
• Ensure that all comms are aligned, on strategy and within guidelines

Agencies:
• Ensure all agencies appointed to work on Universal titles are accurately briefed in writing with expectations clearly outlined
• Proactively manage agencies as needed to deliver quality and advantaged plans and materials
• Strive to achieve a balance between value for money and quality with each agency on each allocated title (and those of direct reports)

• Excellent knowledge of all aspects of the marketing mix: ability to devise and execute innovative marketing campaigns

• Excellent planning and organisational skills with the ability to work to tight deadlines in a fast paced environment
• Demonstrated experience of working within a dynamic and fast paced demanding environment
• Excellent knowledge of the theatrical market and landscape
