Business & Legal Affairs Manager - Full Time 12 Months Contract

Responsibilities

As part of the Business & Legal Affairs team (BALA), the successful candidate will ideally have experience in:
• Provide business affairs and legal support to Matchbox and its affiliates with NBCUniversal, and support to senior lawyers in the team, with regards to scripted television production in Australia for international distribution;
• Engage cast, crew and above-the-line personnel, having regard to Australian, US and other international guild agreements, awards and deal practices (including but not limited to ATPA & ATRRA, MPPCA, SAG-AFTRA, and DGA);
• Prepare production templates, including clearance, location and vendor/supplier contracts and provide training to production teams regarding use of such templates;
• Draft variations to production templates or negotiate bespoke third party production agreements, as required, which may from time to time include Studio Licences/Commercial Leases;
• Provide day to day advice to production teams including on clearances, compliance and risk mitigation matters, insurance and WHS matters;
• Negotiate funding and screen incentive agreements;
• Maintain effective relationships with all relevant stakeholders across a production company and production teams, international partners (where applicable), and where required with the relevant funding agencies, industry bodies and talent agents.
• Assisting the BALA team, as may be required, with providing legal and business affairs support in respect of development deals with talent, financiers and underlying rights agreements.
• Assist with the development and maintenance of group precedents.

The responsibilities associated with this position are not limited to the above job description. Additionally, the individual may be required to provide support to the BALA team across the scripted and unscripted slate, including development, production finance, production and distribution, as may be required from time to time.

Qualifications
• Qualified lawyer with 4-5yr PQE who holds a current Australian practising certificate.
• Experience and passion working for the film and television industry.
• Calm under pressure.
• Team-orientated.
• Conscientious and ethical.
