Responsibilities
Role Summary/Purpose:
The Senior Executive Producer for MSNBC Weekday News Programs will work with show executive producers and the MSNBC executive team to make sure the editorial content adheres to the core values of MSNBC and drives audience growth across the network's various platforms. This exciting role offers both hands-on responsibility of dealing with the daily demands of producing industry-leading news programs and the ability to influence the network's strategic vision and major growth initiatives. It requires a strong leader who loves to manage on-air and production talent, has a highly developed editorial sense and an aggressive desire to win.
Main Responsibilities:
• Work closely with our network newsgathering team and show leaders to set the day's editorial agenda. Present during daily editorial meetings
• Take a hands-on approach with show executive producers to review show choices, bookings and provide guidance, while ensuring the show teams have a true ownership at all levels
• Aggressively respond to breaking news situations and live events. Coordinate sharing of reporters and news resources with broadcast network and streaming platforms during breaking news events
• Build systems and a culture that drives diverse points of view both on our shows and in our newsroom
• Encourage risk-taking to drive audience growth and our position as an industry leader
• Watch output closely and provide real-time feedback on what works and doesn't work
• Ensure that legal and standards guidance is reviewed by show teams and followed
• Work with network booking team and show bookers to drive the biggest bookings to MSNBC's news programs
• Monitor competition and marshal resources to respond when we're behind on a story
• Work closely with show leaders to make sure staff hiring, scheduling and training is effectively managed
• Be present in control room, as needed
• Provide feedback during post-show meetings
• Work closely with talent teams to identify and develop new on-air anchor talent
• Drive the daily interest in and consumption of our ratings data at the show level
• Conduct regular show reviews with show teams and network leadership
• Work to implement new technology and systems with the network operations and technology teams
Qualifications/Requirements
Basic Qualifications:
• Must have a bachelor's degree or higher
• Must have at least 8 years of show experience in live television (i.e. morning shows, cable shows, broadcast TV, etc.)
• Demonstrated editorial skills: Ability to recognize stories with high potential for provocative, compelling television
• Deep knowledge of and interest in current events, politics and pop culture
• Must have at least 3 years of team management experience
Additional Job Requirements:
• Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, under tight deadline pressure, including breaking news
• Must be willing to work in New York, New York
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
