Department: Baseball Operations

Supervisor: Director, Player Personnel

Classification: Full Time/Exempt

Summary/Objective

The Coordinator, Player Personnel will assist the Astros Baseball Operations Department in all manners relating to professional player evaluation, acquisition, and roster management. The position will work closely with the Director, Player Personnel, Manager, Player Personnel, and Assistant General Managers, on daily tasks and long-term projects to achieve departmental goals.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities

• Evaluate players throughout the professional landscape and write scouting reports combining statistics, video, all available data sources, including in-person scouting as required
• Identify targets for consideration in all areas of player personnel and make player acquisition recommendations (trade, free agency, waiver, and Rule 5 drafts)
• Assist in the day-to-day management of Club’s 40-man roster (transactions, etc.)
• Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of tools and models related to player personnel while developing proficiency in all internal decision-making information
• Assist the Astros Player Development department with the player goal setting process
• Monitor player movement throughout the Astros’ minor league system and ensure comprehensive internal player evaluations
• Assist the Major League Staff and Advance Scouting group as needed
• Keep the Baseball Operations department abreast of industry trends, publicly available research, and initiatives
• Continually enhance your baseball knowledge base and engage Baseball Operations staff in discussions that help everyone improve their understanding of relevant topics
• Be creative and proactive with ideas, and continuously work to improve our processes
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Strong computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Previous baseball/softball experience (employee or player capacity) preferred, but not required
• Bilingual (Spanish) preferred, but not required
• Experience with a programming language such as R or SQL preferred, but not required

Work Environment

Position will work in an office and stadium environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The noise level is usually moderate but can be loud within the stadium environment.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Travel

Travel is expected in this role.
