Job Description
FOX Sports is looking for a Freelance Assignment Desk Editor to join their team in Los Angeles, CA. As the Freelance Assignment Desk Editor, you are responsible for supporting daily newsgathering efforts on behalf of multiple FOX Sports platforms. You will communicate with contacts inside Fox Sports and outside media outlets, book feeds, hire remote trucks & ENG crews, clip and upload footage for FOX Affiliates, coordinate with producers, acquire video content, check and build the daily record Sat Sheet list, effort clearance of media from non-FOX entities via request or licensing, cut video clips, maintain up-to-date contacts, download video off FTP sites for use in production, and attend production planning meetings.
A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Newsgather for all FOX Sports Programming and booking transmission, ENG crews for live shots, studio talkbacks, homecams and feature shoots
• Monitor video feeds, set up live event records, and confirm material is going into our system
• Assist in event planning and major projects as assigned by senior staff
• Effort acquisition of video and clearance of media from non-FOX entities via social media or licensing
• Upload video for affiliates and download videos via FTP services
• Update shows on acquired video material and archiving material
• Monitor video feeds, setting up live event records and confirm material is going into our system
• Communicate with co-workers, producers, and outside vendors
• Maintain our strong and fully developed relationships to facility our future needs
• Stay alert to any potential legal issues in clearing content, decisions on approving content, and watching out for any unapproved materials on air
• Prevent misuse of non-Fox owned content
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
• 3+ years of editorial experience, preferably in a newsroom environment
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and excellent organizational skills (the ability to prioritize projects under tight deadlines)
• Strong critical thinking (to judge if a story is newsworthy, if sources need to be checked/wording is appropriate, if there is a risk to releasing certain information, and to verify accuracy and consistency of information)
• Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook)
• Some knowledge of FTP and transmissions
• Proven sports knowledge that lends itself to sound news judgment

• BS/BA in Journalism, Communications or a related degree
