JOB DESCRIPTION

Fox Corporation seeks a full-time iNews Specialist to support iNews systems across FOX Enterprise. The candidate will be responsible for coordinating with the local teams and assisting them in the planning, implementation, and maintenance of these systems in support of airing newscasts.

This position will report to the Executive Director of Newsroom Technology. We are looking for someone with the ability to design, implement, integrate and support major-market newsrooms with Avid iNews at the center, but with full control of multiple systems including, but not limited to, Avid, Bit Central Precis and Oasis, Chyron CAMIO, Sony ELC, Ross Overdrive, Autocue and Auto Script.

This is a hybrid role, requiring on-site visits as needed as well as occasional nights and weekends.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Working knowledge of Linux OS, Linux Shell as well as MOS, HTML and XML
• Ability to install and configure Red Hat Linux Enterprise, and Avid iNews
• Ability to design and implement iNews /site/config
• Ability to work with station personnel and third-party vendors to enable iNews to interoperate with all video, graphics, and studio automation systems, as well as Teleprompters and wire services
• Ability to diagnose issues rapidly and accurately with multiple systems and offer best practice solutions in a timely manner
• Ability to perform the following system tasks including, but not limited to:
• Designing story templates to display important information about stories in a queue
• Monitoring changes to files and queues in the database
• Unlocking or deleting any item in the database, and recovering items that were accidentally deleted or corrupted
• Creating new folders or queues-including set up of rundowns
• Removing a directory or queue from the database
• Changing the name or traits of an existing directory or queue
• Assigning the mailbox trait to queues for configuring automatic story distribution
• Transferring system activities from a halted computer to other system computers
• Reintegrating a server into the system's operation
• Ability to perform the following security tasks including, but not limited to:
• Monitoring for unauthorized login activity
• Assigning security to a directory or queue, limiting access to a specific group of users
• Restricting database access by placing users into security groups based on job roles and need for information
• Ability to perform the following database maintenance tasks including, but not limited to:
• Monitoring how much free space is available in the database
• Performing preventive database maintenance by periodically running certain utility programs such as dbvisit that can find and fix minor problems before they become serious
• Performing platform backups and restores

WHAT YOU WILL NEED
• A mix of a technical and editorial skill set with a thorough understanding of newsroom workflow
• Experience with newsroom management
• Broad knowledge of television news and production
• Strong sense of how broadcast and digital systems affect workflow and the ability to tailor systems to assist journalists, video editors, news managers and digital producers
• Ability to work in a stressful and fast-paced News environment
• Ability to work in a 24/7 news environment
• Ability to work well with others in a collaborative environment and as an individual
• Ability to handle challenging support situations with a calm and methodical approach
• Passion for customer support and ability to adapt to different environments
• Solid written and oral communication skills
