JOB DESCRIPTION

The Weekend Digital Media Librarian is a position with responsibilities for both digital and tape assets. In this position, the Digital Media Librarian will; research and ingest legacy video for news production and sales purposes, select video for permanent archive, increase the value of video by shot-logging and adding appropriate metadata to all archived material, assist in moving tapes and creating tape inventories, make dubs for clients, and work weekends, as well as holidays & late nights as needed.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work a regular schedule of five days a week, including Saturdays & Sundays, with video research, tape ingest, and digital library responsibilities
• Research video as needed using in-house and external resources
• Ingest media into the digital system and provide consistent metadata information for ingested material
• Properly select and annotate a large volume of media in digital asset management system to facilitate retrieval for use in news production
• Utilize various databases and the internet to organize, add, and confirm the accuracy of metadata in video assets
• Catalog activities include screening video, shot listing, providing metadata, and indexing video
• Evaluate video for archiving & rights issues and maintain quality control of archiving operations
• Manage various projects as needed
• Shot-logging video in the Fox Movietone News collection and other collections
• Assist in tape inventorying which requires moving varying quantities of tapes and other material
• Learn all tape and digital technology used by library staff
• Learn all functions of dub room, and provide dubs as needed.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED
• Prior internship/experience in media/production
• Ability to work evening, weekend, and holiday shifts as needed
• Excellent knowledge of, and interest in, history, current events, and news personalities
• Excellent computer skills including typing, online searching, and database experience
• Excellent knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications
• Must be willing to learn all aspects of digital and tape libraries
• Must be willing and able to work with other DMS/Library staff and Fox groups

• Able to learn any new systems and technology adopted by Fox
• Detail-oriented and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Highly motivated with a propensity towards working independently and under deadline pressure

NICE TO HAVE, BUT NOT A DEAL BREAKER
• Professional news library experience
• Knowledge of Dalet digital asset management system and iNews production application
• Knowledge of and experience with analog tape technology (i.e. tape decks & video digitization)
