What You'll Do

Epic Games is looking for a Senior Technical Designer to own the implementation of features (characters, weapons, items, devices, and game mechanics) in collaboration with internal stakeholders and external partners. You will work with multidisciplinary teams to design, develop, and implement tools, systems, and content within the Fortnite Ecosystem to help us expand the possibilities for creators working in Fortnite Creative and UEFN. This role is open to multiple locations: Europe (UK/London preferred), and/or North America (EST) and will require occasional travel to both Europe and the US.

In this role, you will
• Create clear and concise technical design documentation and support design work on multiple projects
• Propose and present solutions in which technical design is a key stakeholder
• Work with Gameplay Designers, Product Managers, and Design Leadership to discuss design challenges, brainstorm solutions, and prioritize actions to drive projects forward
• Partner with the Production, Design, and Programming teams to provide a clear message to stakeholders regarding technical design tasks, priorities, and status
• Design, develop, and implement systems utilizing both visual and written scripting languages, construct rapid prototypes and test maps for mechanics and features
• Iterate on designs, prototypes, and features based on feedback from peers and stakeholders; take ownership of internal tooling and workflows and coordinate technical work across multiple disciplines
• Proactively keep an eye on the impact of your work on the moment-to-moment gameplay, always being an advocate for the player and their play experience at every stage of development

What we're looking for
• 5+ years of technical design experience in a professional setting is required; experience with systems and gameplay design is a plus
• Experience on a live service or UGC-focused title is highly desired
• Professional experience with a high-level programming language and/or Blueprints (e.g. C++, C#, Javascript, Python, etc); experience with UEFN's Verse language a plus
• Proficiency in writing technical documentation with experience writing for an audience spanning multiple disciplines
• Broad knowledge spanning multiple areas of Game Design, and ability to confidently engage on a variety of complex topics across design whilst representing your area of specialism
• Professional experience with Unreal Engine or AAA development using other engines such as Frostbite, Unity; experience with UEFN is a plus
• Familiarity and interest in Fortnite and the evolving creator and UGC space within UEFN
• Strong verbal communication skills with experience communicating technical designs and concepts across multiple disciplines
• Ability to help those around you bring their best to the table through a positive, can-do attitude
