Editor, Pets

Job Summary:

The ideal candidate for this position is an experienced digital writer and editor with an affinity for pet-related content. This role supports both dailypaws.com and thesprucepets.com. Responsibilities include pitching, researching, assigning, editing, and writing various forms of content-articles, editorial programs, social assets, and other types as needed for all channels and aspects of our Pets brands. Requires 5+ years of digital writing, reporting, and editing experience and the ability to excel in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Tasks include:
• Pitching, researching, and writing daily posts and evergreen content optimized for performance on multiple traffic channels (search, social, newsletters)
• Performing relevant SEO research, creating assignments for optimized content creation, and top-editing news and evergreen stories that you assign to freelance and contract writers
• Driving news coverage strategy, using site and social metrics to curate, assign, and edit on-brand news stories that drive traffic on multiple channels
• Act as final QA editor for stories as needed
• Staying up-to-date on industry trends and market launches, and identifying relevant story opportunities
• Act as a representative of our Pets brand at press or brand events, identifying opportunities for written content, social assets, or video
• Assist with essential functions such as creating and maintaining the brands' writing style guides, updating channel programming, producing/building content as needed, uploading video assets, scheduling content, and optimizing existing content

Essential Job Functions:
• Pitch, write, assign, update, and/or edit content for both Daily Paws and The Spruce Pets
• Work closely with Associate Editorial Director and GM on executing sold programs.
• Work with the commerce editorial teams to create and update content as needed.
• Collaborate with our social, newsletter, SEO, and related departments
• Build and edit stories in the CMS
• Attend industry events and represent the brand

Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements:

Education:

Bachelors' degree in Journalism or related field

Experience:

5+ years of digital experience

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Incredible writing, editing, and brainstorming skills
• Excellent proofreading skills and ability to edit in line with a style guide
• A proven track record of creating and curating content that drives traffic and engagement
• A strong attention to detail with the ability to multitask on tight deadlines
• A strategic thinker who considers traffic and social analytics while making editorial decisions
• An adaptable worker who can shift focus from one task to another.
• An idea generator who can think of new, fresh ways to package content
• Excellent people skills and dedication to a collaborative work environment.
• Experience with analytics or search tools like SEM Rush, Google Analytics and Google Trends
• Experience working in a CMS
• Enthusiastic about pets
