Director, Payroll and HR Operations
Deluxe Media is seeking a strategic and experienced Payroll and HR Operations Director to lead payroll operations for North America and Asia Pacific (APAC). This individual will be responsible for ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant payroll processing across all countries where we operate. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with deep expertise in global payroll legislation, systems, and best practices, and a passion for continuous process improvement. This person will own the relationship with our external payroll service providers, partners with HR/Legal/Finance on joint initiatives, and ensure we have the appropriate controls in place that can support Deluxe Media. The role reports to the VP, Total Rewards and People Operations.
This is a hybrid position and involves regular performance of job responsibilities virtually as well as in-person at the Burbank, CA location for a minimum of two days a week, or as required.
What You'll Do
• Lead and manage the payroll function across multiple countries, ensuring compliance with local laws, tax regulations, and internal policies.
• Where not overseeing the payroll function directly, liaise with international payroll teams and advise on Deluxe best practices and procedures.
• Oversee end-to-end payroll and HR operations, including vendor management (ADP primarily), system integrations, data accuracy, and timely disbursements.
• Develop and implement global payroll strategy and policies to support business objectives and scalability.
• Partner with HR, Finance, Legal, and external providers to align payroll processes with company goals and local requirements.
• Monitor changes in international tax and labor laws; ensure payroll compliance and risk mitigation globally.
• Drive payroll-related audits, reporting, and SOX compliance activities.
• Standardize and optimize payroll processes, leveraging technology and automation for increased efficiency.
• Lead and develop a high-performing global payroll team, providing guidance, training, and career development to ensure consistent deliverables and processes.
• In partnership with HR Business Partners, monitor and ensure CBA changes are implemented into system and practice.
• Oversee general/centralized HR Operations functions and projects, such as: Immigration process and procedure, employee policies and procedures (Employee Handbook), Tuition Reimbursement Program, & other centralized HR Operations projects/functions.
• With VP, Total Rewards and HR Operations, handle executive compensation paperwork, logistics and processing.
What You'll Bring
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
• 10+ years of payroll experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing international payroll operations.
• Experience with global payroll systems/HRIS (e.g., ADP, Celergo (ADP), Payforce (ADP), Workday, SAP, etc.).
• Deep understanding of global payroll compliance, tax laws, and statutory reporting requirements.
• Proven track record of process improvement and driving efficiency, systems implementation, and change management.
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic, and global environment.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize deadlines.
This role is based in California and the base pay range for this role is $157,500 - $175,000 annually. Actual amounts will vary depending on education, skills, experience, and geographic location.
