Job Description
OVERVIEW / ROLE DETAILS:

Be at the center of the biggest news expansion in Los Angeles in decades with the talent and resources to win. KCBS/KCAL is looking for a proven leader with a strong basis in content and execution to lead the overall production of eight hours of morning news.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Coordinating a team of more than three dozen in the planning, producing, newsgathering, and executing of morning newscasts from 4am-12pm
- Crafting a planning strategy with your team for future stories and guest segments on multiple newscasts and streaming
- Growing and developing producers, associate producers, writers, reporters, and anchors
- Agenda-setting editorial content for every day and shepherding the gathering and delivering of news stories
- Delivering compelling, highly produced newscasts impacting viewers
- Lead all aspects of the aggressive coverage of breaking news while retaining focus on enterprise stories that reflect the communities we serve
- Coordinating resources with other managers and dayparts
- Leading, mentoring, and growing the team
- Using data, research, and gut to strategically implement newscasts across the morning
- Working with planning and booking team on scaling upcoming news stories

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years in news management

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Highly skilled Journalist with strong ethics
- Degree in journalism or equal work experience preferred
- Must be willing to work weekends and flexible hours
- Understanding and familiarity with union collective bargaining agreements.
- Lead and manage with sound principles and values that foster well-being, encourage growth, and cultivate as sense of community among employees.
- A champion of brand through content, culture, and community
- Knowledge of the Southern California news market and news director experience are preferred.
- Skilled in identifying and implementing content

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Hiring Salary Range: $150,000.00 - 200,000.00.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is bonus eligible.
