Job Description

CBS News is seeking an Associate Producer to help maintain CBSN's news event and coverage calendar.
Our ideal candidate has a demonstrated ability to coordinate with Managers and show teams on planning future coverage, and collaborate with departments across CBSN, CBS Digital, the CBS News broadcast team and other Viacom properties. Responsibilities:
• Maintain CBSN's news event and coverage calendar
• Communicate coverage plans across CBSN and CBS Digital
• Work closely with senior staff to produce editorial content
• Coordinate with assignment desk, booking, show teams and graphics on the planning of day-to-day and major news events
• Recognize and pitch stories with high potential for compelling and comprehensive storytelling
• Collaborate with digital reporters to develop segments based on their reporting
• Develop in-show promotion strategies including graphical elements
• Execute assignments including research, writing questions for anchors for guest segments , and exercising editorial judgment in selection of elements for segments
• Write copy for anchor and reporter voices for live segments/readers as well as writing for feature and news packages
• Work with editors to turn around pre-taped segments
• Pitch and execute special and feature segments
• Edit VO/VOSOTs
• Support special shows and projects as needed
• Order graphics and write banners for assigned stories and segments
• Coordinate video, graphics and soundbites with control room team during segments; pull specific video and soundbites
• Communicates with anchors and correspondents on segments; produce sponsored segments when needed
• Write headlines and captions for segments to be posted online
• Work with Digital Line Producers and editors to clean up and update segments after they air
• Work closely with senior staff to produce editorial content
• Coordinate with assignment desk, booking, show teams and graphics on the planning of day-to-day and major news events
• Recognize and pitch stories with high potential for compelling and comprehensive storytelling
• Develop in-show promotion strategies including graphical elements
• Gather elements during breaking news as needed
• Work with editors to turn around pre taped segments
• Pitch and execute special and feature segments

This is a position covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the WGA-E.

Qualifications:
• 3+ years work experience in broadcast and digital - ideally with some segment producing experience
• Hands on newsroom experience gathering elements during breaking news
• Basic knowledge of current events, politics and pop culture, and control room operations
• Ability to research and write questions for anchors for guest segments, exercising editorial judgment in selection of elements for segments
• Ability to pitch and execute special and feature segments
• Coordinate video, graphics and soundbites with control room team during segments
• Abilty to communicate with anchors and correspondents on segments; produce sponsored segment as needed
• Experience writing headlines and captions for segments to be posted online
• Work with Digital Line Producers and editors to clean up and update segments after they air
• Command of AP style and broadcast writing.
• Familiarity and working knowledge of digital video production-related techniques and online content management
• Sophisticated knowledge of current events, politics and pop culture.
• Availability to work early morning, nights, weekends, holidays - this is a 24-hour network

• Experience shooting video is a plus.
