Overview

WCBS, New York's home for CBS News Radio and the NY Mets, is looking for a full-time guest producer and desk assistant. This position requires strong communication skills and the ability to think critically and multi-task under extreme deadline pressure. You'll be tasked with tracking down newsmakers, developing relationships, and booking live interviews under intense deadline pressure. Responsibilities include interviewing, making sound editorial decisions, working with our digital team, and handling general newsroom duties as directed. The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently and as part of a team, be immersed in local and national news, and have unshakable ethics and standards. You'll be working with the best journalists in the business.

The anticipated starting salary range for New York, NY - based individuals expressing interest in this position is $45,000/yr-$48,000/yr.

Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities and location of the applicant, as well as internal and external equity.

• Conduct pre-interviews and compile research
• Pitch potential talent bookings to hosts and producers
• Download and edit audio from our news partners for broadcast
• Contribute story ideas
• Verify facts
• Conduct interviews

Qualifications

Required & Preferred:
• Radio production and journalism background preferred
• Familiarity with social media platforms
• Must be able to manage and meet strict deadlines
• Broadcast news awareness and writing experience
• Knowledge of current events and industry trends
• Understanding the local market
• Working knowledge of general office computer software, newsroom software, and audio/video editing systems a plus
