BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Basic Qualifications
- 8+ years experience in 3D character production
- Ability to adapt to stylised art direction
- Online portfolio demonstrating art skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in French and English; due to the nature of the role, which requires interaction with other Amazon entities globally and with Amazon employees and stakeholders in other provinces in Canada, bilingual French and English is required for this position.

As a Lead Character Artist, you use your skills and experience to lead the character team in creating iconic 3D characters that players will cherish. Your visionary yet pragmatic approach and artistic skills shape the visual identity of these characters, adding depth, emotion and authenticity. Through your creative leadership, you ensure that each character design is seamlessly integrated with the game's artistic direction, enhancing the immersive experience for players. By leading the team to excellence, you create memorable connections between players and the compelling characters you and your team bring to life.

Key job responsibilities
Responsibilities:
- Create high quality 3D characters in line with the game vision and technical constraints;
- Set quality benchmarks for 3D characters for the game;
- Develop workflows according to team and production needs;
- Organise and facilitate regular team meetings to assign tasks, set priorities, discuss progress, etc.
- Adopt the latest tools and techniques to raise the quality bar for character art;
- Evaluate integrated work and ensure it is in harmony with the art direction and can be animated well.
- Provide coaching and constructive feedback to develop a consistent and high quality visual style.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred qualifications
- Proficiency with Maya, ZBrush or other modelling software
- Knowledge of Substance Painter, Substance Designer or similar packages
- Experience of working with Unreal 5 or similar game engine
- Strong understanding of form, shape, texture, silhouette, anatomy as it relates to character modelling
- Mastery of the 3D character production pipeline
- Capacity to learn new tools and techniques
- Ability to mentor and share knowledge
