Job Description
Be part of the talented team behind America's number 1 morning show. Good Morning America is looking for a Head Writer to oversee the writing assignments of GMA's Newswriters and edit copy for both hours of the show. Reporting to the Executive Producer, the Head Writer's duties may extend to hiring, training or engaging Newswriters, scheduling shifts and meal periods, or similar management decisions. The ideal candidate will have management and TV production experience including but not limited to writing and editing copy for a news program, working in a control room and on a deadline, interviewing guests for live segments and maintaining strong journalistic judgment.
Responsibilities:
-Overseeing the writing assignments of 20+ staff and freelance writers
-Editing copy and segment notes for both hours of Good Morning America
-Working closely with writers to craft copy and questions for anchors
-Assigning daily and long term segments
-Scheduling writers for both weekday and weekend GMA
-Hiring and training new writers
-Providing feedback and constructive criticism
-Working closely with senior and executive staff to craft the best possible show
-Working closely with the Legal & Standards teams to ensure accuracy and fairness in all copy
This position is covered under a collective bargaining agreement with the Writers Guild of America
Basic Qualifications:
-Minimum 5 years of writing and production experience for a live show at the large market, cable or network level
Required Education
-Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
