Job Description
The Deputy Bureau Chief, Los Angeles serves as a second in command to the LA Bureau Chief. This role has significant decision-making authority using sound editorial judgment. This is a senior leadership role overseeing news gathering staff in the western United States.

Responsibilities:
• Serves as the bureau's second in command; oversees execution of the bureau's coverage strategy.
• Has the authority to make significant coverage and resource decisions.
• Represents the bureau in conversations with leadership including presenting at morning editorial meetings pitching and advocating for west coast stories
• Works collaboratively across platforms to ensure coverage of news in the western United States
• Manages the bureau and field producers; makes assignment decisions; provides regular performance feedback.
• Evaluates and resolves challenges and coverage needs; has the authority to deploy bureau resources as needed.
• Maintains relations with key local stations across the west
• Responsible for ensuring sound budget strategy

Qualifications:
• Applicants should have at least 8 years of experience in network news.
• Must have experience managing news gathering teams; strong and proven editorial judgment; clear communication skills; budget strategy and tracking
• Must be flexible with a 24/7 news cycle.

Education:
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience

The hiring range for this position in Los Angeles is $159,400 to $219,230 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
