Overview

The Network & Transmission Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining Broadcast Networks, wireless and wired, to meet engineering requirements inline with production demand. To support site broadcast facilities; studio/remote/cloud frameworks, broadcast networks, and transmission to ensure quality/ uptime of IP infrastructure. Involved in the coordination and supervision of transmission for live or live-to-tape productions; testing and certification of new installations or modifications, preventative maintenance, and emergency support. This role is challenging, technically critical, and constantly evolving. The Network & Transmission Engineer will work directly with the corresponding Technical Production Managers & Senior Technical Production Manager to deliver world-class productions.

This is a 12-month contract position with the potential to extend.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead engineering efforts to build a unified Broadcast Network & Transmission NOC
• Assist with project plans and schedule commitments to ensure plans are integrated and aligned to overall production schedule
• Serve as the lead transmission role on assigned remote, studio, and cloud productions
• • Build shows from the ground up; design signal flow and execute, including encoder/decoder configurations
• Perform daily checks of critical broadcast and transmission equipment to ensure operational performance meets required specific standards
• Installs, maintains and supports data, voice, and video network equipment, firewalls, and customer applications in a wired and wireless technical environment
• Troubleshoot software/hardware issues on firewalls, routers, switches, session border controllers, and VoIP controllers and gateways with manufacture TAC personnel; performs backup of device configurations; performs IOS, software, and firmware upgrades on network equipment with guidance and assistance with EA IT
• Monitors voice, data, and video performance and provides ongoing support to resolve problems
• Administers voice, data, and network management tools to monitor and maintain uptime
• Work directly with Senior Technical Production Manager to identify critical technical issues with production partners, in-house, and cloud deployments; develop an action plan outlining solutions
• Monitor via online task management system all ongoing technical issues and report on resolutions to Senior Technical Production Manager
• Create and review operational level SOP's and signal flow drawings to ensure department repository of documentation is up to date including IP addresses inventory
• Accurately prepare Post Show Reports at the conclusion of each event and submit within 48 hours to Senior Technical Production Manager
• Directly manage all required preventative and technical maintenance of transmission equipment
• Operate, track, and report equipment in online management system, including repairs, maintenance and shipments
• Offer innovative, creative ideas that add value to the engineering team and assigned projects
• Other duties and tasks assigned

Job Requirements
• Exceptional working knowledge of analog and digital technology, satellite RF technology and distribution methods, data networks, servers, archive, distribution systems, analog and SMPTE standards
• Expert level understanding of knowledge of video compression codec, video over IP, and digital transmission technology
• Effectively analyze, identify, and diagnose data networks related problems and take corrective measures or make recommendations that lead to problem resolution
• Demonstrate superior leadership qualities; work in a team-focused environment with fellow employees, office staff, vendors, and crews to manage, delegate and/or execute tasks, solve problems, and deliver a world-class product
• Perform with a high level of professionalism at all times; expertly troubleshoot and deliver consistent sound judgment direction and guidance to others in high-pressure situations

Knowledge of
• Data Communications, network design, configuration integration, QOS implementation and troubleshooting, edge/perimeter and application firewalls configuration and troubleshooting, including Palo Alto and Barracuda application firewalls; Switching and routing protocols such as TCP/IP BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS, DMVPN; Use of data packet analyzers and network troubleshooting utilities such as Wireshark, Trace Routes, PING (basic and extended) NBSTAT, ARP, IPERF; OSI Layers 1 through 4 and associated equipment such as Digital Transmission Systems, switching and routing equipment, circuit termination equipment, ASE, T1, and DS3; Wireless Technologies based on IEEE 802.11ac and 802.11b/g/n and broadband 2.8/ 5.8 GHz bands such as Cisco Wireless, Cisco Meraki networks
• Design and configuration of voice services such as Voice over IP (VoIP) telephone systems and voice messaging applications; Public carrier infrastructure connections and interconnections for voice and data network services such as CenturyLink and Verizon switched Ethernet (ASE), T-1, SIP trunking, ISDN and POTS services.

Minimum Qualifications
• 5 - 8+ years of experience in live broadcast engineering environment, with Master Control and Transmission experience required
• BA/BS degree; concentration in Communications, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering preferred
• Advanced knowledge of various transmission technologies
• Cisco Certification; CCENT, CCNA
• Cloud Computing; AWS, Google, etc.
• Proven leader with the ability to delegate and lead teams effectively
• Prior experience with large scale project management jobs
• Willing and able to travel periodically, flexibly, and internationally
• Willing to work weekends and holidays
• Airline travel required; possess or be willing to acquire a U.S. passport
• Participate in requested background checks when assigned to shows that require it

Physical Job Requirements
• Must be able to work shifts that typically last 12 - 15 hours but could extend up to 20 hours
• Must be able to walk or stand up to 8 hours at a time
• Ability to bend, squat, kneel on both knees, and climb stairs frequently
• Ability to lift up to 50 - 75 lbs. frequently
• Ability to carry 50 lbs. a distance of 50 feet occasionally
• Ability to pinch (10 lbs.) and grip (50 lbs.) related broadcast equipment
• Must be able to maintain a position within a space 3.5 - 4 feet tall up to 1 minute occasionally
• Ability to horizontally transfer 50 lbs. on a push-pull cart up to 50 feet
• Ability to vertically transfer 50 lbs. on a push-pull system with upper extremities only
• Ability to ascend and descend a ladder
