Job Description

In the YouTube Community team, our mission is to connect viewers and creators by using communication, sharing, and lightweight content features to enable viewers to directly support and fund creators by purchasing digital goods, and developing rapidly increasing types of content. Every day, hundreds of millions of YouTube viewers use community features, and as the Director of Engineering Program Management for the community team, you will report to the VP of Engineering for Emerging Experiences and Community.

You will be responsible for all engineering program management, including management of a growing team of program managers in a growing engineering organization of engineers. You will be responsible for execution, prioritization and talent development of the Program Managers and Technical Program Managers, and will be a member of Emerging Experiences and Community tech leadership team. You will contribute to tech strategy and operations, working closely with partners in tech and business functions, and with the YouTube Product Operations team.

Resonsibilities:
• Partner closely with tech leadership in Engineering, Product Management, and User Experience to define the vision and operational strategy for Emerging experiences and community engineering.
• Take responsibility for the overall planning, execution, and success of complex technical operations; identify gaps and develop solutions to address them, contributing to YouTube program management leadership on YouTube-wide initiatives.
• Manage and grow a team of program managers and technical program managers across varying levels of seniority, including management of people managers.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with internal stakeholders and across various teams within YouTube (i.e., Main App, Search and Discovery, Video Infrastructure, and more).
• Develop leadership talent through effective mentoring, coaching, succession planning and talent retention strategies in a growing environment.

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 15 years of professional experience in engineering and technical innovation.
• 5 years of experience managing teams of Program Managers and Technical Program managers.
• Experience with cross-functional stakeholder management.

Preferred qualifications:
• Experience leading organizations including distinct, loosely coupled teams responsible for multiple company-level priorities.
• Experience working with consumer-facing product organizations.
• Experience successfully establishing a ''big picture'' strategy, providing detailed operational guidance to your team, and a sense of urgency in driving execution.
• Ability to successfully drive cross-functional initiatives from strategy to execution.
• Ability to inspire and motivate program managers and their engineering partners to work together as a cohesive and highly productive unit, demonstrating excellent emotional intelligence.
