Job Summary/Description:

WVVA Television, Inc. in Bluefield, WV is looking for a hard-working and aggressive news Assignment Editor. This person works in the newsroom on the assignment desk managing content on all platforms. The right candidate has solid news judgment and is a great multitasker! The news assignment editor must be the calm in the chaos while evaluating resources, making good news decisions and communicate clearly and effectively under hard deadlines. The Assignment Editor is a key member of our newsroom and is a proven leader and mentor. Position maintains a professional relationship with city, county and state officials was well as law enforcement. WVVA is committed to strong journalism and community service. We are looking for a leader, a coach, and a hands-on assignment editor.

Duties/Responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):
• Coordinate planning and execution of coverage plan across multiple platforms.
• Managing logistics and resources.
• Newsgathering (including developing story ideas, confirming information, breaking news coverage).
• Create and publish content to digital and social media platforms.
• Monitor scanners and social media.
• Communicate with broadcast and digital producers, field crews.
• Work closely with news management.

Qualifications/Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in communications or a related field or equivalent experience is preferred.
• Outstanding communication skills.
• News judgement.
• Knowledge of news gathering, video and still photography. Editing a plus.
• Excellent people skills.
• Knowledge of ENPS and Edius is preferred.
