About WSFA:
WSFA 12 News, Alabama's News Source for central and south Alabama & dominant number one TV station in Montgomery, AL, is looking for a Sports Director. We seek a leader who can coordinate coverage for our sports department, making a daily impact in our newscasts. The successful candidate must be a self-starter, with good organizational skills, must be able to deliver energetic sportscasts and compelling sports news on all platforms under tight, pressure packed deadlines. This includes a leading presence on Facebook, Twitter, wsfa.com as well as Instagram and even Tik Tok.

The successful candidate must be a self-starter, with good organizational skills, must be able to deliver energetic sportscasts and compelling sports news on all platforms under tight, pressure packed deadlines. This includes a leading presence on Facebook, Twitter, wsfa.com as well as Instagram and even Tik Tok.
Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Being a leader in the community is essential – with speaking engagements and emcee opportunities.
- Must demonstrate strong photography skills shooting all sports.
- Storytelling must also be demonstrated on your reel.
- Sports knowledge is critical, but it must go beyond the X's and O's and drive the emotion and amazing stories that exist across in sports and athletes.
- Breaking stories with area contacts is key.
- Our award-winning sports team covers Auburn, Alabama, Alabama State, Troy, Tuskegee, Auburn-Montgomery, Huntingdon and Faulkner athletics in addition to all high school sports. Montgomery is home to AA baseball – the Montgomery Biscuits, the Camellia Bowl as well as many regional sports tournaments and Bowl Games. We also help produce several sports special over the year.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Candidate must have at least 5-years of sports reporting/anchoring experience.
- In addition to anchoring our 6, 9 and 10pm newscasts, availability in our 4pm newscast and other newscasts as needed will be required.
- Must be energetic, driven, have solid news/sports judgment, have strong reporting and live skills.
- Must be a leader in the newsroom and excel at breaking news/sports coverage from the studio and in the field.
- Exceptional planning and creative storytelling are a must – a flexible schedule is part of the job with sports events.
- College degree in Journalism or Communications
- Good driving record is a must.
- Exceptional knowledge of sports.
