Meteorologist

Job Description

WPDE has an immediate opening for a Weekend Meteorologist. This is a full-time weather position. The person in this position is responsible for anchoring the weekend evening newscasts (6pm/11pm) for WPDE, Myrtle Beach's ABC affiliate, and WTGS, Savannah's FOX affiliate (10pm). Three days a week, this person assists and backs up the chief meteorologist, anchors weather related content not included in the main weathercast, and produces weather related web and social content.

Job Responsibilities:
• Produce and present weather reports for all platforms
• Issue warnings and alerts
• Produce graphics and maps
• Report live during weather events
• Forecast, produce, and present clear and concise forecasts that connect with viewers
• Develop content and graphics for on-air, web, and extensive social media
• Make public appearances on behalf of the station
• Work with producers to determine relevant weather content in breaking and everyday situations on-air and digital platforms

Required Skills and Experience:
• Previous on-air experience presenting weather and news information is required
• Strong digital writing skills
• Previous WSI experience preferred
• Thorough knowledge of how to maximize the weather system to create distinctive graphics presentations
• High energy and engaging personality
• Willingness to come in off duty when severe weather threatens our area
• Proven track record of covering severe weather on-air and on digital
• Proof of strong social media engagement
• Meteorology degree preferred
• Proven ability to effectively report live in the field
• Willingness and ability to work any shift assigned
