Job Description
WMUR-TV is looking to hire our next Assignment Editor. If you have a passion for finding stories, informing the public and working with a motivated team, we'd like to hear from you.

The successful candidate will have a take charge attitude when it comes to breaking news and digging for stories important to our viewers. We are looking for a bright, motivated assignment editor who finds distinctive enterprise stories and oversees news coverage that will set us apart from other media outlets.

Job Responsibilities:
• Listen to multiple police scanners which cover dozens of agencies throughout our market.
• Gather and organize press releases, emails, phone calls, viewer tips and staff story ideas. Take initiative and decide which of the above will yield compelling content for newscasts.
• Assist news management with content gathering and planning.
• Assist producers, digital editors, reporters and photographers with story gathering.
• Keep track of crews in the field and maintain communication with them.
• Furnish content and post it to all digital platforms-including but not limited to posting video, posting to social media and sending push alerts.
• Write articles for digital platforms.
• In-person attendance is required.

Experience Requirements:
• Must have excellent news judgment.
• Must have experience listening to police scanners.
• Must have advanced knowledge of digital platforms, especially social media.
• Must be able to multi-task, including, monitoring multiple social media accounts in order to gather content and communicate with news makers while keeping in contact with crews, producers and news managers.
• Familiar with local newsgathering technology and terminology.

Qualifications Requirements:
• Must be highly organized.
• Must be able to work multiple projects simultaneously.
• Must be able to foster and maintain professional working relationships with newsmakers.
• Must be able to gather information from multiple sources simultaneously and quickly send to news managers, anchors, reporters, photographers, producers and digital editors.
• Must have a sense of urgency and be able to thrive in a high-pressure breaking news and weather environment.
• Must have the ability to remain calm and level-headed during breaking news situations and when working on tight deadlines.
• Must have excellent communication skills.
• Must be able to work a variety of shifts including weekends, nights and holidays.

Education:
• Related experience and/or training considered as well as a combination of education and experience.
