Job Description

WLTX in Columbia, S.C. is looking for a skilled journalist to join our team as Anchor.

The successful candidate understands the basic principles of journalism and is interested in connecting with community through enterprise storytelling, innovative newscast segments, and the occasional public appearance .

Ideally, the candidate will be experienced on the anchor desk. Maybe you're currently on the weekend anchor desk, or a reporter who fills in on the desk occasionally. We are looking for a team player who has excellent writing skills, is willing to be a leading voice which drives content decisions, isn't afraid to ask questions, has an engaging presence, sense of humor, understands the immediacy needed during breaking news situations and can skillfully ad lib in any situation.

Responsibilities:
• Anchor morning newscasts and report on important local stories affecting the community
• Generate unique, compelling and innovative story/show ideas and content
• Ability to communicate stories in conversational manner
• Skillfully and calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events
• Excellent, creative presentation and writing skills a must
• Write and post regularly on all digital platforms including social media
• Cultivate sources and enterprise lead worthy reports.
• Open to participating in community and talent appearances.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.
• Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines.
• Ability to take leadership role in newscast production with strong news judgement.

Job Requirements:

Requirements:
• Degree in Journalism or Mass Communication preferred with at least 2-3 experience as an anchor/reporter in a small to medium market.
• Natural on-air delivery with strong ability to ad-lib.
• Excellent writing skills
• Strong storytelling/packaging and live skills.
• Must be able to report or a broad range of topics
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Shooting and editing skills a plus

Travel: Rarely: less than 10%

Work Environment Set: Office: normally performed in a typical interior/office environment

Physical Demands Set: Light work: Involves sitting most of the time, walking, lifting, bending, standing, etc.
