Job Description

WLOS News 13 is looking for a reporter ready to dig deeper on one of the most important topics in many communities, education. This position will focus on the issues surrounding our schools and our students. How are tax dollars being used to better education? What changes in curriculum are happening that parents need to know? What are the good things our schools and students are accomplishing? We want to go beyond the school board meeting to show the actual work being done in our school systems and hold those in power accountable.

This is a great first step for reporters looking to grow their investigative chops. There will also be weekly chances for general assignment reporting and breaking news coverage.

No day will look the same as a Reporter, however, the main responsibilities of the role will include:
• Create meaningful stories for station's newscasts that can be used across multiple platforms
• Provide news on-air as directed from the news management team
• Engaging with local community members
• Reviewing material for fairness, accuracy, and balance
• Work closely with all members of the news team, which would include Producers, Editors, Anchors, News Directors etc..

Additionally, this person should have a…
• Proven knowledge and experience working with current media creation tools and contemporary newsroom systems
• Excel in storytelling across multiple platforms
• Strong writing and copy-editing skills are a must
• 3+ years of experience as a Reporter
• Must be able to work well under pressure to meet strict deadlines
