Sports MMJ / Anchor / Producer, WLEX
WLEX, the NBC affiliate owned by The E.W. Scripps Company in Lexington, KY is looking for an enterprising Sports MMJ / Anchor / Producer. The station needs a Sports Jack or Jane of all trades in a place many consider the mecca of college sports! The successful candidate will write, shoot, and edit sports stories for daily newscasts and the flagship syndicated sports programs BBN Tonight and BBN Gameday, which focus on University of Kentucky athletics.
Lexington boasts a vibrant sports community and is home to multiple universities, a rich history of high school sports, and Keeneland, one of the world's premier horse racing tracks. Additionally, the city features a growing array of professional sports teams, including the Lexington SC of the USL Super League and the Lexington Legends, a professional baseball team in the MLB-affiliated Atlantic League.
The sports department at WLEX is seven people strong and is responsible for at least 6-hours of local sports per week.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
• Receive assignments or evaluate news leads and news tips to develop story ideas.
• Produce daily sports shows and segments or assist producers in preparing news and sportscasts.
• Gather and verify factual story information through interviews, observation, and research.
• Organize material, determine slant or emphasis, and write stories according to prescribed editorial style and format standards.
• Shoot videos and still photos to illustrate stories.
• Edit, or assist in editing, videos for all multimedia platforms.
• Appear on TV in live and pre-taped situations in the studio and in the field.
• Work cooperatively with the photographer assigned to the story, if one is assigned.
• Assist online staff in preparing multimedia stories.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
• BS/BA in a related discipline or equivalent years of experience preferred
• Generally, 3+ years of experience in a related field preferred
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
• Computer literacy required, including newsroom computer systems
• Videography and non-linear editing experience preferred
• Knowledge of broadcast-quality camera equipment
• Edit video on Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, and Edius editing systems or similar equipment
• S trong broadcast and AP-style writing skills
• Proficient at posting content to various websites
• Se lf-motivated and able to work in a deadline-driven environment
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
• Valid driver's license and good driving record required, in addition, proof of insurance and liability coverage may be required
